# Asynchronous work

> Work arranged so people can contribute at different times without everyone being present simultaneously.

## What it means

Work that does not need people online at the same time: async and sync communication compared fairly, what makes async work (written context, decision logs, clear owners, agreed reply times), and handovers across time zones. No numbers unless a study is opened and cited.

## A practical example

A handover names the decision, owner, deadline and source link so the next time zone can continue without a call.

## Put it into practice

- Name the concrete situation before applying the label. Asynchronous work is useful only when it changes a choice, boundary or next action.
- Make the state visible: write the owner, time, source or stopping condition down instead of relying on memory.
- Review what happened. Keep the part that reduced ambiguity and change the part that added ceremony without helping the work.
