The footer is the thin bar along the very bottom of the PlexiDesk window, on every screen. The left side tells you about this copy of PlexiDesk: its version, updates, your plan's trial, sync and who you are signed in as. The right side is where to find the terms, help and the list of what has changed.

## The left side

The version and the sync status are always there. The other items on the left appear only when they have something to tell you, so you will not always see all of them.

### Version and update check

The first item is your version and its build date, for example **v4.3.25 · 2026-10-10**.

- Rest the pointer on it to see the full version and build date.
- Click it to check for an update straight away, instead of waiting for PlexiDesk to check by itself. While it checks, the footer shows **Checking…**. If you already have the latest version, nothing else appears.

### Updates

When an update is found, its progress appears beside the version.

- **On a Mac**, a button appears that reads **Update to** and the new version number. Click it and PlexiDesk downloads the update, replaces itself and opens again. While that happens, the footer reads **Installing** and the version number.
- **On Windows**, the footer reads **Update available** and the new version number while the download starts by itself, then **Downloading** with a percentage. When it is ready, a button reads **Install** and the version number. Click it to restart PlexiDesk on the new version. If you would rather carry on working, the update installs the next time you quit PlexiDesk.

If an update cannot finish, the footer says so and offers **retry**, to try again, and **download manually**, which opens our [download page](https://plexiidesk.com/download) so you can install the latest version yourself. See [Updates](https://plexiidesk.com/help/app-updates).

### Trial badge

While you are signed in, a small badge can appear after the version:

- **Trial** with the number of days left, such as **Trial · 3d**, while you are on a trial.
- **Free · Upgrade** when you are on the Free plan and not on a trial.

Click either badge to open **Pick a plan**. **See pricing** opens our [pricing page](https://plexiidesk.com/pricing) in your browser, and **Stay on Free** closes the window. On Pro and Team there is no badge. See [Your free trial](https://plexiidesk.com/help) and [Plans and pricing](https://plexiidesk.com/help).

### Sync status

A coloured dot and a word show where your work stands:

- **Synced**: your workspace is up to date.
- **Syncing**: changes are on their way.
- **Saved locally**: your work is saved on this computer and is not syncing, for example because you are not signed in.
- **Offline**: PlexiDesk cannot connect to sync right now.
- **Sync error**: rest the pointer on it to see the reason.

Rest the pointer on the status for a sentence explaining it. The same status, with more detail, sits at the foot of the side menu. See [Accounts and sync](https://plexiidesk.com/help/accounts-and-sync).

> **Tip:**
> If the footer says **Offline**, keep working. Your work is saved on this computer and syncs by itself when the connection returns.

### Your name and signing out

While you are signed in, your name appears in the accent colour with your initial beside it. If your account has no name, the first part of your email address is shown instead.

1. Rest the pointer on your name to see the email address you are signed in with.
2. To sign out, click your name.
3. Confirm. Signing out keeps your local data on this computer, and shared items in your inbox stay until you remove them.

See [Sign in and create an account](https://plexiidesk.com/help).

### Local · encrypted

Once you have set up a vault for your saved passwords and keys, **Local · encrypted** appears in the footer with a padlock.

- **A closed padlock** means the vault is locked.
- **An open padlock**, shown in green, means the vault is unlocked.

Rest the pointer on it for a reminder of what it means. To open the vault, go to Settings, open the **Data** tab and click **Open the vault**. See [Vault](https://plexiidesk.com/help).

## The right side

- **Terms of Use** opens the PlexiDesk terms of use inside the app.
- **Help & support** opens this help centre in your browser.
- **What's new** opens **What's new in PlexiDesk**, a list of every release with the newest at the top. When there are changes you have not looked at yet, the button is highlighted and shows a small dot. Opening the list clears the dot. Press `Esc` or click outside the list to close it. You can also read [What's new](https://plexiidesk.com/changelog) on our website.

## Common questions

**I clicked the version and nothing happened.** You already have the latest version. When there is nothing to install, the footer stays as it is.

**The footer says Saved locally. Is my work safe?** Yes. Your work is saved on this computer. Sign in to sync it across your devices. See [Accounts and sync](https://plexiidesk.com/help/accounts-and-sync).

**Where do I sign out?** Click your name in the footer, then confirm.

**Why is there no trial badge?** The badge appears only while you are signed in, and only during a trial or on the Free plan.

**I do not see Local · encrypted.** It appears only after you have set up a vault. See [Vault](https://plexiidesk.com/help).
