# Reorder, nest and bulk-close items

> Drag Attention items into your own order, nest them as sub-items, move them between queues, and select several to close, archive or hand to Plexii at once.

The Attention page puts items in a sensible order for you, but you can shape it yourself. Drag a row to put it where you want it, rest it on another row to make it a sub-item, or drop it on another queue to refile it. When you have a pile to clear, select several items and close, archive or dismiss them in one go, or hand the whole set to Plexii.

Use this when your list has grown and you want it to reflect how you actually plan to work through it.

> **Note:**
> Attention is off until you switch it on. Turn on **Attention layer** in Settings, on the **AI** tab, under **Attention**. See [Turn Attention on or off](https://plexiidesk.com/help/settings-ai-attention).

## Before you start

- Organising Attention items is available on every plan.
- Open the Attention page: in the Desk area, click **Attention** in the side menu.
- Dragging works when **Group by** is set to **Queue**, which is where the page starts. In the **Due** and **Origin** groupings the rows stay in their ranked order and cannot be dragged. See [Queues, closing verbs and grouping](https://plexiidesk.com/help/attention-queues).

## Reorder items

1. Press on a row and drag it. The whole row is the handle; the tooltip says **Drag to reorder or nest · double-click to edit**.
2. Move it towards the top or bottom edge of another row. A line shows where it will land.
3. Let go.

Your order is kept. A row whose full text is open cannot be dragged; click its title to fold it first.

## Nest an item under another

1. Drag a row onto the middle of another row and hold it still.
2. After a moment the target row lights up. That means "put it inside this one".
3. Let go. The item becomes a sub-item, indented under its parent, with a dashed line joining them.

Items can nest up to three levels deep: an item, its sub-items, and their sub-items. If a drop would go deeper, the target does not light up. When a parent moves, its sub-items move with it.

A parent shows how many of its sub-items are closed, for example **2/5 subtasks**, with a small progress bar.

### Fold and unfold sub-items

Click the arrow beside a parent's title, or its progress line, to hide or show its sub-items. The tooltips say **Collapse its subtasks** and **Show its subtasks**. While they are hidden, the progress line ends in **· hidden**. PlexiDesk remembers which parents you folded.

### Take an item out of its group

Rest the pointer on a sub-item and click **Detach from its group** in its actions. It moves back to the top level, and keeps its own sub-items.

## Move an item to another queue

Drag the row and drop it on another queue's section, or on that queue's tab along the top of the list. **move here** appears beside the section name while you are over it.

Moving an item refiles it in that queue, which also changes the word it closes with. For example, an item moved from **To Do** to **Review** closes with **Reviewed** instead of **Done**. Its sub-items move with it.

You can also drop a row onto a specific row in another queue to place it there, or nest it there, in one move.

## Desk groups

When two or more items in a queue come from the same desk, they sit together under a header with the desk's name, its status (for example **Desk: in progress**), its due date if it has one, and how many items it holds.

- Click the header to fold the desk's items away, and again to show them. A fold lasts until you close PlexiDesk.
- Click the desk icon in the header to open the desk.

## Select several items

1. Click **Select** at the top right of the page. It changes to **Done**, and a bar appears above the queues showing how many are selected.
2. Pick the items:
   - Click the box at the left of each row.
   - Click **Select all** to select every open item that matches the tag or filter you have chosen, including any you have snoozed.
   - Hold `Shift` and drag across the queues to sweep a box over the rows you want. This also works before you click **Select**.
   - Click **Clear** to start again.
3. Choose what to do with them:

| Button | What it does |
| --- | --- |
| **Complete all** | Closes each item with its own queue's word: a **Meet** item is scheduled, a **Decide** item is decided, and so on. |
| **Dismiss all** | Sets the items aside. They leave the queues and are not deleted. |
| **Archive all** | Moves the items to the Archived shelf, where you can unarchive them later. |
| **Get started with Plexii** | Opens the Plexii panel with one message listing all the selected items and asking how to get started. Nothing is sent until you press send. |

4. Click **Done** to leave selecting.

While selecting, drag one of the selected rows to move or nest the whole selection in one go.

Items on the **Detached** shelf cannot be selected. Fix their desk first. See [Close, snooze, archive and edit an item](https://plexiidesk.com/help/attention-work-an-item#detached).

## What you will see

- Sub-items sit indented under their parent with a dashed line in the queue's colour.
- A top-level row has a coloured stripe on its left edge. Sub-items do not; the dashed line shows which queue they belong to.
- While you drag, the row you picked up fades, and lines or a highlight show where it will land.

## Tips

- Nest the small steps of a bigger job under it. Closing the parent then asks whether to close the steps too.
- Use **Select all** after narrowing the page with a tag or a filter, to act on just that slice.
- **Complete all** does not ask about sub-items or offer to mark a desk done. Close items one at a time with the circle when you want those questions.

## Common questions

**I cannot drag anything.** Check that **Group by** is set to **Queue**, and that the row's full text is folded away.

**The row will not light up when I hold it over another.** The nest would be more than three levels deep, or you are dropping an item onto one of its own sub-items.

**Where do dismissed items go?** They leave the queues and are not shown on the Attention page. Nothing is deleted.

**Is my order remembered?** Yes. Your order and nesting are saved with the items, and folded parents stay folded. Folded desk groups open again the next time you start PlexiDesk.
