The **Brain Map** shows your knowledge as a picture. Every entry in your Brain is a point on the map, and two entries are joined by a line when they share a tag. Entries about the same project, client or topic gather together, so you can see at a glance what your workspace knows a lot about, and what stands on its own.

## Before you start

- **Every plan** includes the Brain Map.
- **Tags make the links.** Entries with no tags in common show as points with no lines. See [Build your knowledge base in Ask Brain](https://plexiidesk.com/help/brain-knowledge).

## Open the Brain Map

Open the **Brain** area and choose **Brain Map**. The page is headed **Brain Map**, with the line **Your knowledge as a graph. Each entry is a node, linked to others it shares a tag with.**

Opening the map also brings your Brain up to date with your desks, documents, notes and files, so the map covers what is in your workspace now. This happens at most every 30 seconds, however often you open it.

## Read the map

- **Each point is an entry,** with its title underneath.
- **Pinned entries** are larger, filled points, and sit towards the centre. Other entries ring around them.
- **Lines join entries that share a tag.** The more tags two entries share, the thicker the line.
- **Under the map**, a line counts what is shown, for example **48 entries, 112 links by shared tags. Click a node to open it.**

Entries Brain brings in from your workspace are tagged by what they are, such as document, note or file, and notes are also tagged with the desk they are on. So a desk's notes cluster together, and so do your documents.

## Explore it

- **Point at an entry** to highlight it, the entries it is linked to and the lines between them. Everything else fades.
- **Click an entry** to open it in Ask Brain, where you can read, edit, tag or pin it.

## If the map is empty

Before your Brain has any entries, the map says **Your brain is empty. Save facts, decisions and processes into PlexiBrain, tag them, and this map draws the connections between them.** Add an entry in Ask Brain, or add files and folders there, then come back.

## Tips

- **Tag to connect.** Give related entries a shared tag, such as a client's name, and they join up on the map.
- **Look for loners.** An entry with no lines shares no tags. Tag it, or check whether it is still needed.
- **Pin your anchors.** Pinned entries sit near the centre, so pin the ones the rest hang off.

## Common questions

**Why are there entries I never wrote?** Brain brings in your desks, documents, notes and files so they can be searched and mapped. See [Build your knowledge base in Ask Brain](https://plexiidesk.com/help/brain-knowledge).

**Two related entries aren't linked.** Lines come only from shared tags. Give both the same tag.

**Can I move points around?** No. The map lays itself out the same way every time, with pinned entries in the middle.
