The minimap is a small picture of your whole desk. It shows where everything is and which part of the desk you are looking at, and you can click it to move the view. Above it sits the jump list: every item on the desk by name, with the one you changed most recently at the top.

Use them on a big desk, when you have lost your place, or when you know the name of what you want but not where it is.

## Before you start

- **Plan:** the minimap and the jump list work the same on every plan.
- **Open a desk.** The map button appears on any open desk.

## Open the minimap

The map button is a small round button with a map on it, at the bottom right of the desk, just to the left of the Plexii button. Its tooltip says **Show minimap**.

1. Click the map button. The minimap opens in its place.
2. To close it, click the **×** in its top-right corner.

The minimap also opens by itself for a couple of seconds whenever you pan or zoom, then tucks away again once you stop. Clicking the desk closes it straight away. If you clicked the map button to open it, it stays open until you close it.

## What the minimap shows

- **Your whole desk in miniature.** Each widget appears as a tiny preview, in the same place it sits on the desk.
- **Sections as outlined boxes.** A Section and everything in it shows as one box.
- **What is on your screen now,** as a highlighted rectangle.
- **Your zoom level,** such as **100%**, in the top-left corner.

Widgets pinned to the screen are not on the map, because they stay in view wherever you go. If the desk has nothing on it yet, the minimap says **Empty canvas**.

## Move around with the minimap

1. Open the minimap.
2. Click the spot you want to look at. The view moves so that spot is in the middle of your screen.
3. To look around, keep the mouse button down and drag across the minimap. The view follows your pointer, and the highlighted rectangle moves with it.

Your zoom level stays the same. To zoom, see [Move around the canvas](https://plexiidesk.com/help/canvas-navigation).

## Jump to an item by name

The jump list names every item on the desk, so you do not have to recognise a widget from its tiny shape.

1. Rest the pointer on the map button, or on the open minimap. A list headed **Jump to · last touched** appears above it.
2. Move the pointer up into the list. It stays open while the pointer is over it, and scrolls if the desk has a lot on it.
3. Click a name. The view moves to that item.

Items inside a Section are listed too. To bring one of them into view, click the name of the Section it is in.

Each row shows:

- **The item's name.** An item without a name shows what kind of widget it is instead.
- **How long ago it last changed,** such as **now**, **4m** (minutes), **2h** (hours), **3d** (days) or **1w** (weeks). The list is in this order, newest first, so the thing you were just working on is usually at the top. Editing, moving or resizing an item all count as a change.
- **A pin,** for an item pinned to the screen. Clicking a pinned item does not move the view, because it is already in front of you.

## Rename an item from the list

You can rename any item straight from the jump list, without finding it on the desk first. When you rest the pointer on a row, a small pencil appears at its right-hand end to show the name can be edited.

1. In the jump list, double-click the name, or right-click it.
2. Type the new name. The list stays open while you type, even if the pointer drifts off it.
3. Press `Enter` to keep the new name, or press `Esc` to leave the name as it was. Clicking somewhere else also keeps what you typed.

If you clear the name completely, the row shows what kind of widget it is instead. Typing a name here never adds widgets to the desk, even though single letters are quick-add keys on the desk itself.

## The buttons beside the minimap

- **The Plexii button** to its right opens Plexii, the assistant. See [Meet Plexii, your assistant](https://plexiidesk.com/help/ai-assistant).
- **The lightning-bolt button** above the Plexii button is **Automations on this desk**, a list of what runs on its own on the desk. See [See what runs on its own on a desk](https://plexiidesk.com/help/canvas-automations).

## Common questions

**The minimap keeps popping up.** It opens for a couple of seconds whenever the view moves, so you can see where you have got to, and then closes by itself. Click the desk to close it straight away.

**I clicked an item in the list and the view did not move.** That item is pinned to the screen (it has a pin in the list), so it is already in view. Look for it at the edge of your screen, where pinned widgets sit.

**The list disappeared before I could click.** The list belongs to the map button. Move the pointer straight up from the map button or minimap into the list. If it closes, rest the pointer on the map button again.

**Why is an old item at the top of the list?** Moving or resizing an item counts as a change, so an item you tidied a moment ago comes first even if you did not edit what is in it.
