# Generate designs and copy with AI > Describe a design and AI writes the copy and lays it out in your brand, as one design or several to pick from. Then polish the wording with the AI Assistant. Describe what you need, such as an announcement or a sale, and AI writes the copy and PlexiiDesign lays it out at your page size, in your brand's colours and fonts. Ask for several variations to choose from, or one straight away. Then use the **AI Assistant** beside the page to sharpen the wording. ## Before you start - AI design is on every plan. - AI needs to be set up: PlexiDesk credits while you are signed in, or your own Anthropic key. See [AI credits and where your AI runs](https://plexiidesk.com/help/ai-credits). - Set the page size first: AI designs at the design's current size. See [Start a design at the right size](https://plexiidesk.com/help/design-start-a-design). - Set up your brand kit if you want the design in your colours and fonts. See [Brand kit, Brandify and your logo](https://plexiidesk.com/help/design-brand-kit). ## Draft a design from a description 1. Click **AI design** in the toolbar. The **Generate with AI** panel opens. 2. In the first box, describe the design, such as "a launch announcement for our new pricing". 3. Choose how many: - **Variations** asks for several designs. The **Pick a design** window shows them side by side, each laid out differently. Click the one you want. - **One** makes a single design and puts it on the page straight away. Pressing `Enter` in the box does the same as **Variations**. A line above the page shows what is happening, such as **Generating variations…**. > **Note:** > The design you choose replaces the whole design, every page included, with a single page. Use **AI design** on a new design, or click Undo straight away if you want your earlier work back. Every AI design is made of ordinary text boxes and shapes. Double-click any text to change it, and move, recolour or delete anything. > **Tip:** > Say what the design is for and what it must include, such as the date, the offer or the call to action. AI writes the copy from what you tell it, so a specific description gives a more useful first draft. The same panel can also generate a picture. See [Stock photos, AI images and background removal](https://plexiidesk.com/help/design-stock-photos-and-image-tools). ## Polish the words with the AI Assistant The **AI Assistant** panel sits to the right of the page. Click **Assistant** in the toolbar to show or hide it. ### Rewrite a text box 1. Click a text box on the page. 2. In the AI Assistant, click **Improve copy** or **Shorten text**. 3. Read the result under **Result**, then click **Apply** to put it in the text box in place of its text. If no text box is selected, the panel says **Select a text element first, then I can rewrite it.** ### Get new copy - **Suggest a headline** writes a short headline. - **Generate a caption** writes a one or two sentence caption, such as for a social post. With a text box selected, both are based on its text. Click **Insert** to add the result to the page as a new text box, ready to move into place. ### Ask for something specific Type a request in the box, such as "a bold tagline for a summer sale", and click **Ask for a design idea**, or press `⌘` `Enter` on a Mac or `Ctrl` `Enter` on Windows. - With a text box selected, the assistant changes that text as you asked. Click **Apply**. - With nothing selected, it writes something new. Click **Insert**. **Copy** copies any result, so you can paste it where you like. **Working on it.** shows while the assistant runs. ## Common questions **The panel says no Anthropic API key is set.** AI is not set up yet. Sign in to use PlexiDesk credits, or add your own key. For a document of several pages, bring in your text and use **Redesign**.
