# Start a design at the right size

> Start a PlexiiDesign design at the size it is for, from A4 brochures to social posts and business cards, or from an on-brand template, and resize it later.

Every design has a size, set when you start it. Pick the size of what you are making, such as an A4 brochure, a social post or a business card, and the page is ready at the right shape. You can start blank or from a template drawn in your brand, and change the size later.

## Before you start

- Starting a design is on every plan.
- Templates use your brand kit. To have them in your colours and fonts from the start, set up the brand kit first. See [Brand kit, Brandify and your logo](https://plexiidesk.com/help/design-brand-kit).

## Start from the PlexiDesign page

1. Press `⌘` `K` on a Mac or `Ctrl` `K` on Windows, and choose **New design**. The **PlexiDesign** page opens.
2. Click a size, or a template under it. The new design opens, named after the size or template.

### The sizes

Sizes are in pixels.

### Publications are set up for you

A publication opens ready for page layout:

- **Four pages**, the smallest folded booklet. Add or delete pages in the page strip under the page.
- **Margins** on every side, shown as a box on the page.
- **A master page**, **Master A**, that every page uses. Put your header, footer and page number on it once. See [Pages, master pages, guides and layers](https://plexiidesk.com/help/design-pages-masters-and-layers).

Every other size opens as a single blank page at that size. You can add pages to any design.

### The templates

Each group except **Publications** has templates, drawn in your brand's colours and fonts:

A template is a starting point with example wording. Double-click a text box to put in your own.

## Start from Office Home

Click the **Apps** heading in the side menu, then the **PlexiDesign** tile on Office Home. A new design called "Untitled design" opens as a single **Instagram post** page, 1080 × 1080. Change its size with the size button, as below. **Blank design** under **Start with a template** on Office Home does the same, naming the design "Blank design".

## Use a template in a design you have open

1. Click **Templates** in the toolbar. The **Start from a template** panel opens, with the templates grouped as above.
2. Click a template.

> **Note:**
> A template replaces the whole design with a single page at the template's own size. Pick one before you add your own work. If you change your mind, click Undo.

## Change the size

1. Click the size button in the toolbar. It shows the current size's name, such as **Instagram post**. The **Canvas size** panel opens.
2. Click the new size.

Everything on every page is scaled to fit the new size, including the master pages, margins and guides, and text sizes scale with it. So one design can become a post, a story and a banner. Going to a very different shape, such as from a square to a wide banner, stretches the layout, so check the result and adjust it.

> **Tip:**
> To make several sizes of the same design, finish one, choose **File** > **Make a copy**, and change the copy's size. Each size then stays its own file.

## Common questions

**Can I type in my own size?** Choose the closest size from the list. The sizes are fixed.

**I started on the wrong size.** Click the size button and choose the right one. Your design is scaled to it.

**My template is not in my brand colours.** Templates use the brand kit as it is when you add them. Set up the brand kit, then add the template again, or click **Brandify** to recolour the page you are on. See [Brand kit, Brandify and your logo](https://plexiidesk.com/help/design-brand-kit).
