Two keys save you trips to the toolbar while you write. Type **/** to insert a heading, list, table or other block where you are. Type **@** to link to something elsewhere in your workspace, such as a desk, a widget, another document or a person.

## Before you start

- **Plans.** The / and @ menus are on every plan.
- **Where they work.** In PlexiiDocs documents, whether you open them in Office or in a Document widget on a desk.

## Insert with /

1. Type **/**. A menu opens at the cursor.
2. Keep typing to narrow it, for example **/tab** for **Table**.
3. Press `↑` and `↓` to move, then `Enter`, or click an item.

The / and what you typed after it are replaced by your choice. Press `Esc` to close the menu without inserting anything.

| Item | What it inserts |
| --- | --- |
| **Heading 1**, **Heading 2**, **Heading 3** | Turns the line into a large, medium or small section heading. |
| **Bullet list** | A bulleted list. |
| **Numbered list** | A numbered list. |
| **Checklist** | A list of tasks with boxes to tick. |
| **Table** | A table of three rows and three columns, with a header row. |
| **Quote** | A block quotation. |
| **Code block** | A block for code, coloured by its syntax. |
| **Divider** | A horizontal line. |
| **Insert widget from a desk** | Opens a list of your desks' widgets to embed one in the page. |
| **Insert office file** | Opens a list of your Office files to add a card that opens one. |

If nothing matches what you typed, the menu says **No matching command**.

For the last two, see [Embed desk widgets and other files in a document](https://plexiidesk.com/help/office-embed-widgets-and-files).

## Link with @

1. Type **@** at the start of a word. A list of suggestions appears below the cursor.
2. Keep typing part of a name to narrow the list. It shows up to eight matches, closest first.
3. Press `↑` and `↓` to move, then `Enter` or `Tab`, or click a suggestion.

The name goes into the document as a link, followed by a space so you can carry on typing. Press `Esc` to close the list and keep the text as you typed it.

### What you can link to

| Kind | In the list | Clicking the link |
| --- | --- | --- |
| **Desk** | Marked **Desk** | Opens the desk. |
| **Room** | Marked **Room** | Opens the room. |
| **Widget** | Marked with its kind, such as **Table** | Opens the desk it is on. |
| **Document** | Marked with its kind | Opens the Documents page. |
| **Person** | Their email address | Nothing. The link names the person. |

Archived desks and rooms are not offered.

> **Tip:**
> An @ only opens the list at the start of a word, so typing an email address such as name@example.com does not open it.

## What a link is

A mention is an ordinary link in the document: it is saved with the document and kept when you export it. To remove one, select it and delete it like any other text.

## Common questions

**The / menu did not open.**
Type / after a space or at the start of a line. A / in the middle of a word, as in "and/or", is just a slash.

**The @ list is empty.**
Nothing matches what you typed. Check the spelling, or type fewer letters.

**Can I mention someone in a comment?**
Yes. In a comment or reply, type @ to choose from the people taking part in the document's comments. See [Comment on a document](https://plexiidesk.com/help/docs-comments).
