In an organisation's workspace, a task can be given to people. Assign it to one person or to several, members of the organisation and guests alike, and it appears in each person's Focus. Anyone it is assigned to can close it, and everyone sees it closed.

## Before you start

- **Plan.** Organisations are part of the Team plan. Guests are free and do not count as seats. See [What each plan includes](https://plexiidesk.com/help/plan-features).
- **Work in the organisation.** Assigning works on tasks in an organisation's workspace. Choose the organisation in the workspace switcher at the top of the side menu. A task in your **Personal** workspace has nobody else to give it to, so it shows no **Assigned to** field. See [Organisation settings and switching workspaces](https://plexiidesk.com/help/settings-organisation).
- **The people come from the organisation.** You can assign anyone who has joined it: owners, admins, members and guests. To add someone, invite them first. See [Set up and manage your organisation](https://plexiidesk.com/help/org-manage).

## Assign a task

1. In Focus, double-click the task, or click **Open the task** in its row's actions. **Edit task** opens.
2. Under **Assigned to**, click each person to add them. Members are listed first, then guests, marked **Guest**. Click a name again to take them off.
3. Click **Save**, or press `⌘` + `Enter`.

This works the same for a task you captured and for a task on a desk, such as one in a Tasks work widget.

The people a task is assigned to show as small initials on its row in Focus. Rest the pointer on them to see their names.

## Who sees a task

| Who | What they see |
| --- | --- |
| **You** | Your Focus in the organisation lists the tasks assigned to you, and any task you added that is not assigned to anyone yet. |
| **A member it is assigned to** | The task in their Focus, with its desk. They can edit it, change its queue and close it. |
| **A guest it is assigned to** | The task in their Focus, and the title of the desk it is on. They can mark it done or change its progress. They cannot rename it, reassign it or move it, and they see nothing else in the organisation's workspace: no other desks, tasks, documents or files. |
| **Everyone else in the organisation** | Members still see the task on its desk. It is not in their Focus unless it is assigned to them. |

When someone assigns you a task, PlexiiDesk tells you once, with a notification such as **Sam Lee assigned you a task**.

## Take someone off a task

Open the task, click their name under **Assigned to** so it is no longer highlighted, and click **Save**. The task leaves their Focus. For a guest, it leaves their device entirely.

## Common questions

**A task is not in my Focus.** In an organisation, Focus lists the tasks assigned to you, plus unassigned tasks you added. A task assigned only to someone else is in their Focus; you can still find it on its desk.

**Can more than one person close the same task?** Any one of them can close it, and it is closed for everyone. Closing it once is enough.

**What does a guest see?** Only the tasks assigned to them, and the name of the desk each one is on. Give a guest exactly the tasks you want them to do.

**The list of people is empty.** PlexiiDesk could not load the organisation's people. Check your connection, then open the task again.

**Can I assign a task in my Personal workspace?** No. Personal tasks are yours alone. Move the desk into an organisation to share its tasks; they go with it.
