# Customize your Home dashboard

> Move, resize, add, replace and remove the widgets on your Home dashboard, or go back to the starting layout. The same steps work on every area's Home.

Your Home dashboard is a board of widgets that you arrange yourself. In Customize mode you can drag widgets into a new order, change their size, add new ones from the widget gallery, swap one for another and remove the ones you do not use.

## Before you start

- **Plans.** Customizing is on every plan.
- **Every area's Home works the same way.** Home, Office Home, People Home and Brain Home each have their own **Customize** button and their own saved layout. See [The Home dashboard](https://plexiidesk.com/help/home-dashboard).
- **Your layout is saved on this computer.** Changes are saved as you make them. Another computer you use keeps its own layout.

## Start customizing

1. Open your Home dashboard.
2. Click **Customize** at the top right.

What changes:

- The greeting, the Home bar and the **Focus mode** button fade back, so the board is what you are working on.
- Every widget gets a coloured outline and small buttons on its top-right corner.
- **Add widget** appears at the top right, and the **Customize** button now reads **Done**.
- **Reset layout** appears too, once your layout differs from the starting one.

While you are customizing, the widgets do not respond to clicks inside them. Click **Done** to use them again.



The buttons on each widget's corner:

- **The size button** shows the current size, such as **SM** or **LG**. It appears only on widgets that come in more than one size.
- **The pencil** (Edit) appears only on widgets set to show a particular desk, room, object, document, person or chat.
- **The ×** removes the widget.

## Move a widget

1. Press on the widget and start dragging. It lifts off the board and follows the pointer.
2. As you move, the other widgets slide aside, and a soft gap shows where it will land.
3. Let go to drop it there.

To cancel a move, press `Esc` before you let go. The widget goes back where it was.

> **Tip:**
> A click without dragging selects the widget instead. That is how you replace one widget with another, described below.

## Change a widget's size

Click the size button on the widget's corner. Each click steps to the next size the widget supports, and after the last size it starts again from the first.

When the window is narrow, the board drops from four columns to two or one, and Medium and Large widgets fill the width.

## Add a widget

1. In Customize mode, click **Add widget**. The **Widgets** panel opens over the dashboard.
2. Find the widget you want:
   - Type in **Search widgets**. It matches widget names and descriptions.
   - Or click a group: **All**, **Navigation**, **Live**, **Smart**, **Actions** or **Communication**.
3. Click the widget.
4. If the widget shows one particular thing, a small window asks which one first. Choose it from the list (see the table below).
5. The widget's own page opens with a live preview that uses your real content. Pick a size with the arrows either side of the preview, or with the dots under it. The size's name (Icon, Small, Medium, Large or Stack) shows underneath. The size it normally arrives at is chosen for you.
6. Click **Add widget**. The panel closes and the new widget appears at the end of the board with a brief glow, and the page scrolls to it.
7. Drag it to where you want it.

To go back to the full list from a widget's page, click the back arrow at the top left. To close the panel without adding anything, click **Done** at the top of the list, the **×** on a widget's page, anywhere outside the panel, or press `Esc`.

### Widgets you choose a subject for

| Pinned desk | **Pin which desk?** |
| Room portal | **Open which room?** |
| Pinned conversation | **Pin who, or which chat?** Shows people online now and your conversations. |
| Desk object | **Which desk?**, then **Which object?** |
| Office document | **Which document?** |

Each window has a search box at the top and a **Cancel** button.

### Widgets already on the board

Most widgets appear once per dashboard. In the panel, a widget that is already on your board shows a green tick and the words "Already on your home", and cannot be added again.

Six widgets can be added as many times as you like, each showing something different: **Pinned desk**, **Desk object**, **Office document**, **Room portal**, **Shortcuts** and **Pinned conversation**. For example, add a Pinned desk for each desk you open every day.

## Replace a widget with another

1. In Customize mode, click the widget you want to replace (click, do not drag). Its outline brightens to show it is selected.
2. Click **Add widget**. The panel's heading reads **Replace** followed by the widget's name.
3. Click the widget you want instead. Choose one that is not already on the board. If it shows one particular thing, choose which one when asked.

The new widget takes the old one's place and, where it supports it, the old one's size.

To change your mind before opening the panel, click the selected widget again. Once the panel is open, click **cancel the swap** to add a widget instead, or press `Esc` to close the panel and `Esc` again to clear the selection.

## Change what a widget shows

For Pinned desk, Room portal, Pinned conversation, Desk object and Office document:

1. In Customize mode, click the pencil on the widget's corner.
2. Choose a different desk, room, person or chat, object or document from the list.

The widget updates in place, keeping its position and size.

## Remove a widget

In Customize mode, click the **×** on the widget's corner. It is removed straight away. To bring it back, add it again with **Add widget**.

Removing a widget only takes it off the dashboard. The desk, document, conversation or other work it showed is not affected.

## Go back to the starting layout

1. In Customize mode, click **Reset layout**. It appears only when your layout differs from the starting one.
2. The dashboard returns straight away to the widgets it started with, at their starting sizes.

## Finish customizing

Click **Done**. The widgets work normally again and the greeting, Home bar and Focus mode button come back.

You can also press `Esc`. It steps back one layer at a time: first it cancels a drag in progress, then closes the Widgets panel, then clears a selected widget, and finally leaves Customize mode.

> **Tip:**
> If your computer is set to reduce motion, widgets fade into place instead of springing.

## Common questions

**I cannot click anything inside my widgets.** You are in Customize mode. Click **Done**.

**A widget in the panel has a green tick and will not add.** It is already on this dashboard. Only Pinned desk, Desk object, Office document, Room portal, Shortcuts and Pinned conversation can be added more than once.

**My new widget went to the bottom.** New widgets always arrive at the end of the board. Drag it up to where you want it.

**The size button is missing on a widget.** That widget comes in only one size, such as Standup (Large) or New desk (Icon).

**I changed Office Home and my Home did not change.** Each dashboard keeps its own layout, so you can arrange each one for what you do there.

**Will my layout appear on my other computer?** Layouts are saved on each computer, so arrange each one the way you like it.
