# New desk widget

> A one-click button on your Home dashboard that makes a new desk called New desk and opens it straight away.

The **New desk** widget is a small square button on your Home dashboard. One click makes a fresh, empty desk and takes you straight into it. There are no questions to answer first, so it suits the moments when you want a canvas now and will name it later.

## Before you start

- The widget is available on every plan, and every plan lets you create as many desks as you like.
- You can add it to **Home**, **Office Home**, **People Home** or **Brain Home**, once on each.
- It has one size, **Icon**. Four icon-size widgets fit in the space of one Small widget, so it takes up very little room.

## Add the widget to your dashboard

1. Open your Home dashboard and click **Customize** at the top right.
2. Click **Add widget**.
3. Click **Actions**, or type "desk" in **Search widgets**.
4. Click **New desk**. The preview shows the icon.
5. Click **Add widget**, drag the icon to where you want it, then click **Done**.



## Make a desk

1. Click **New desk** on your dashboard.
2. PlexiDesk creates a desk called "New desk" and opens it. The desk sits at the top level, outside any room.

> If you would rather name the desk, pick a room and start from a template before it opens, use **Desk** in the [Create new widget](https://plexiidesk.com/help/home-widget-create-new) on Home, or **New desk** at the top of the side menu. ## Remove the widget

1. Click **Customize** at the top of the dashboard.
2. Click the **×** at the top-right corner of the New desk icon.
3. Click **Done**.

The icon has no size button, because it comes in one size only.

## Good ways to use it

- **Capture an idea before it goes.** Click, add a sticky note, and name the desk later.
- **Keep a row of one-click actions.** Put it beside the [Focus timer](https://plexiidesk.com/help/home-widget-focus-timer), [Discover](https://plexiidesk.com/help/home-widget-discover) and [New meeting](https://plexiidesk.com/help/home-widget-new-meeting) icons.
- **Start from an idea instead of a blank canvas.** The [Discover widget](https://plexiidesk.com/help/home-widget-discover) talks an idea through with Plexii, which proposes the desk once you say yes.

## Common questions

### Where did my new desk go?

It is at the top level, not inside a room, and it is called "New desk" until you rename it. You can find it with your other desks. See [Browse All rooms and All desks](https://plexiidesk.com/help/rooms-desks-index).

### I made a desk by mistake

Move it to the Trash. See [Archive, trash and restore rooms and desks](https://plexiidesk.com/help/desk-archive-trash).

### Does this count towards a limit on the Free plan?

No. Every plan includes unlimited desks. The Free plan limits rooms, not desks. See [Create and organise rooms](https://plexiidesk.com/help/room-create).

### Nothing happens when I click the icon

While you are customising the dashboard, widgets do not respond to clicks. Click **Done** first.
