# Pinned desk widget

> Keep a desk you care about one click away on your dashboard. Add a Pinned desk widget for each desk you want close at hand.

A **Pinned desk** widget holds one desk. It shows the desk's name and when it was last edited, and one click opens it. Add one widget for each desk you want close at hand, such as the two or three you are working on this week.



## Before you start

- **Plans.** Pinned desk is on every plan.
- **Where it goes.** You can add it to Home, Office Home, People Home or Brain Home, as many times as you like.
- **Sizes.** **Small** or **Medium**. Medium is twice as wide, so longer desk names fit.
- **Desks only.** It pins a desk. To keep a whole room on your dashboard, use the [Room portal widget](https://plexiidesk.com/help/home-widget-room-portal).

## Pin a desk

1. Open the dashboard. For Home, click **Home** in the side menu.
2. Click **Customize** at the top right.
3. Click **Add widget**.
4. Click **Navigation**, or type "pinned" in **Search widgets**.
5. Click **Pinned desk**. The **Pin which desk?** window opens.
6. Click the desk you want. The list starts with the desks you changed most recently; type in **Search desks…** to find any other desk.
7. Use the arrows beside the preview to choose **Small** or **Medium**.
8. Click **Add widget**. The widget appears at the end of your dashboard, briefly highlighted.
9. Drag it to where you want it, then click **Done**.

To close **Pin which desk?** without pinning anything, click **Cancel**.

## Open the desk

Click the desk in the widget. The desk opens on its canvas.

## Pin another desk in one click

Under the pinned desk, every Pinned desk widget has an **Add desk** row.

1. Click **Add desk**. The **Pin which desk?** window opens.
2. Click a desk.

A new Pinned desk widget, at the Small size, appears at the end of your dashboard with that desk in it. Drag it into place in **Customize** if you want it somewhere else.

## Change which desk is pinned

1. Click **Customize**.
2. Click the pencil on the widget's top right corner. Its tooltip says **Edit Pinned desk**.
3. Click a different desk in **Pin which desk?**.
4. Click **Done**.

## Change the size or remove the widget

1. Click **Customize**.
2. To change the size, click the size button on the widget's top right corner. Each click moves to the next size.
3. To take the widget off the dashboard, click the **×** on its top right corner.
4. Click **Done**.

Removing the widget does not change the desk.

## If the desk has gone

If a pinned desk is deleted or archived, the widget says **This desk is gone. Remove the widget or pin another.** Either remove the widget, or click **Customize** and use the pencil to pin a different desk. ## Good ways to use it

- **Pin this week's work.** Pin the desks you are working on now and remove them when the work is done, so Home always shows what matters this week.
- **Keep a desk close in every area.** Add the same desk to Office Home or People Home, so it is one click away whichever area you are in.
- **Group related desks.** Place pinned desks for one project side by side, next to a [Desk object widget](https://plexiidesk.com/help/home-widget-desk-object) showing that project's checklist or table.

## Common questions

### Can I pin the same desk on more than one dashboard?

Yes. Each dashboard has its own widgets, so pin the desk on each dashboard where you want it.

### My pinned desks are not on my other computer

Your dashboard layout, including which desks are pinned, is saved on each computer separately. Pin the desks on each computer you use.

### How is this different from Rooms and desks?

[Rooms and desks](https://plexiidesk.com/help/home-widget-rooms-and-desks) lets you browse every room and its desks. A Pinned desk widget holds just one desk you have chosen, so it is always in the same place.
