Local-first, explained: where your work lives in PlexiDesk
"Local-first" gets used loosely, so here is exactly what it means in PlexiDesk, including the parts that do touch a server.
What stays on your machine
Your folders, desks, desk objects, notes and SpeedDeck set-up are stored in a local database on your computer. The app works fully offline and without an account. The vault is sealed with a master password only you know; we can't see it and we can't recover it.
What uses a server, and why
Some features only work if data is stored on a server: sharing a link, the cloud inbox that receives shares while your app is closed, sync across devices, live collaboration, chat, meetings and mail. When you use one of those, the data it needs is stored on our servers so it can work. Sync is encrypted in transit but not end-to-end encrypted, so the server can read what it stores for those features. You can revoke a share link at any time.
AI, two ways
With your own Anthropic key, prompts and responses go straight from your machine to Anthropic and never pass through our servers. With managed Plexii, requests run through our server, which records token counts and estimated cost for billing, and doesn't sell your prompts or use them to train models.
What we don't collect
No third-party analytics: no Google Analytics, Mixpanel, Segment or ad trackers. First-party usage telemetry (app version, platform and aggregate counts, never your content or prompts) is on by default and can be turned off in Settings.
