Plexii glossary

Asynchronous work

Work arranged so people can contribute at different times without everyone being present simultaneously.

What it means

Work that does not need people online at the same time: async and sync communication compared fairly, what makes async work (written context, decision logs, clear owners, agreed reply times), and handovers across time zones. No numbers unless a study is opened and cited.

The term is most useful as a shared description. It does not remove the need to look at the actual task, evidence or constraint in front of you.

A practical example

A handover names the decision, owner, deadline and source link so the next time zone can continue without a call.

Put it into practice

  1. Name the concrete situation before applying the label. Asynchronous work is useful only when it changes a choice, boundary or next action.
  2. Make the state visible: write the owner, time, source or stopping condition down instead of relying on memory.
  3. Review what happened. Keep the part that reduced ambiguity and change the part that added ceremony without helping the work.
