Plexii glossary

Daily standup

A short daily check-in about progress, the next useful step and anything blocking it.

What it means

A short daily check-in, with the Scrum Guide 2020 reference (verified): “The Daily Scrum is a 15-minute event for the Developers of the Scrum Team.” Explain the familiar three questions and that the 2020 guide frames the event around progress toward the Sprint Goal . Async standups for distributed teams, and a solo standup for people who work alone.

The term is most useful as a shared description. It does not remove the need to look at the actual task, evidence or constraint in front of you.

A practical example

“Finished the import; next is validation; blocked on the sample file” gives a team enough context to respond.

Put it into practice

  1. Name the concrete situation before applying the label. Daily standup is useful only when it changes a choice, boundary or next action.
  2. Make the state visible: write the owner, time, source or stopping condition down instead of relying on memory.
  3. Review what happened. Keep the part that reduced ambiguity and change the part that added ceremony without helping the work.
