Plexii glossary

Brain dump

A quick, unfiltered capture of open tasks, concerns and ideas before they are sorted into a workable system.

What it means

What a brain dump is , how it differs from journalling, and a three-step method — dump, sort into do / schedule / drop, pick three — with a printable prompt list (work, home, people, money, admin, ideas). Neutral about ADHD, no clinical claims.

The term is most useful as a shared description. It does not remove the need to look at the actual task, evidence or constraint in front of you.

A practical example

For five minutes, capture every promise and concern without organising it; only afterwards sort, schedule or drop each item.

Put it into practice

  1. Name the concrete situation before applying the label. Brain dump is useful only when it changes a choice, boundary or next action.
  2. Make the state visible: write the owner, time, source or stopping condition down instead of relying on memory.
  3. Review what happened. Keep the part that reduced ambiguity and change the part that added ceremony without helping the work.
