Plexii glossary

Action item

A specific task arising from a discussion, written with one owner, a due date and a clear result.

What it means

A specific task that comes out of a meeting with one owner and a due date; how to write one (start with a verb, name one owner, give a date, say what done looks like); why they get lost and how to track them.

The term is most useful as a shared description. It does not remove the need to look at the actual task, evidence or constraint in front of you.

A practical example

“Mina to send the revised price list to Arun by 16 October” is testable; “follow up on pricing” is not.

Put it into practice

  1. Name the concrete situation before applying the label. Action item is useful only when it changes a choice, boundary or next action.
  2. Make the state visible: write the owner, time, source or stopping condition down instead of relying on memory.
  3. Review what happened. Keep the part that reduced ambiguity and change the part that added ceremony without helping the work.

How it relates to Plexii

the Tasks widget gives a task an assignee, start and due dates and what it waits for (widget tasks planning); Attention keeps what you owe in one queue (widget attention). Link track commitments and meeting agenda builder.
