Create an account and sign in

Create your PlexiDesk account, sign in each time you open PlexiDesk, and sign out. Learn what an account adds and what works without one.

All plansUpdated

A PlexiDesk account keeps your work in step across your computers, lets people share with you, and carries your plan. You sign in with your email address and a password.

You can try PlexiDesk without an account first. Everything you make is saved on your computer either way.

Before you start

  • You need an email address you can receive mail at. It is how you sign in, and how a forgotten password is reset.
  • Choose a password of at least 8 characters.
  • Every new account starts with a 14-day trial of the Team plan's features, with no card needed. See Your 14-day trial.
  • Your organisation may use single sign-on. If it does, you can sign in with your work account instead. See Sign in with SSO.

What an account adds

Without an account, PlexiDesk works on this computer only. Signing in adds:

Create an account

  1. Open PlexiDesk. If the sign-in window does not appear, click the gear at the right-hand end of the header to open Settings, click the Account tab, then click Sign in or create account.
  2. At the top of the window, click Sign up.
  3. Enter your Email, your First name and Last name, and a Password of at least 8 characters. Click the eye in the password box to see what you typed.
  4. Click Create account.

You are signed in, and your trial starts. Your name is how you appear to others in mentions, chat and meeting invitations. You can change it later in Settings. See Account settings.

If an account with that email already exists, PlexiDesk tells you so and switches the window to Log in.

PlexiDesk asks you to sign in each time you open it. It remembers your email address, so you only need to type your password.

  1. Open PlexiDesk. The sign-in window says Welcome back.
  2. Check that Log in is selected at the top.
  3. Enter your Email and Password.
  4. Click Log in.
  5. If your account uses two-factor authentication, an Authentication code box appears. Enter the 6-digit code from your authenticator app, or one of your recovery codes, and click Verify. See Turn on two-factor authentication.

Your work syncs, and your plan and organisations load.

Sign in with single sign-on

If your organisation has set up single sign-on:

  1. In the sign-in window, choose Log in.
  2. Type your work email address in Email.
  3. Click Sign in with SSO.
  4. Sign in with your work account in the browser window that opens. When it hands you back to PlexiDesk, click Sign in if PlexiDesk asks you to confirm.

See Single sign-on and directory sync.

Use PlexiDesk without an account

In the sign-in window, click Continue without account. The window stays away for a week. You can sign in at any time from Settings > Account > Sign in or create account.

You can open PlexiDesk three times without an account. After that, the sign-in window says You seem to like us and asks you to create an account, so that your work can be recovered, synced and shared rather than living only on one computer.

If PlexiDesk cannot reach the server

If PlexiDesk cannot connect when you sign in, it says so and offers Continue offline for now. Your desks are on your computer, so carry on working and sign in when the connection is back.

Sign out

  • From the footer: click your name at the bottom of the window. Its tooltip says Signed in as and your email address. Confirm with Sign out.
  • From Settings: open Settings, click the Account tab, and click Sign out.

Signing out signs out this computer only. Your work stays on this computer, and anything you change while signed out syncs when you sign in again. Your other computers stay signed in.

Common questions

Why do I have to sign in every time I open PlexiDesk? PlexiDesk does not keep you signed in after it closes, so nobody who opens it after you finds your account signed in. Your email address is remembered, so you only type your password.

It says "Invalid email or password." Check the email address and password, including capital letters. If you have forgotten your password, click Forgot password? under the password box. See Reset a forgotten password.

It says "Too many sign-in attempts. Wait a few minutes and try again." After several wrong tries, sign-in pauses for a few minutes to protect your account. Wait, then try again, or reset your password.

Do I need to verify my email address? No. You can use your account as soon as you create it.

Can I sign in with Google or Apple? Sign in with your email address and password, or with single sign-on if your organisation has set it up.

I made desks before I created my account. Are they kept? Yes. When you sign in, work you made on this computer is added to your account and syncs to your other computers. See Sync your work across devices.

I was invited to an organisation. What do I do? Create your account with the email address you were invited at. You join the organisation as soon as you sign up. See Organisation settings and switching workspaces.
