Where was I widget

See the desk you last worked on, how long ago, and the last web page you opened, then get straight back to it with one button: Resume.

All plansUpdated

The Where was I widget remembers what you were doing so you do not have to. It shows the desk you last worked on, how long ago that was and the last web page you opened in PlexiDesk, with one button to go back: Resume.

Use it after anything that pulls you away: a meeting, a break, a busy morning in your inbox, or a day off. Open Home, check where you were, click Resume.

Before you start

  • The Where was I widget is available on every plan.
  • It needs no AI. It reads your activity trail, the record of what you do on your desks that the Recent activity widget also shows.
  • It has something to show once you have worked on a desk in the last seven days.
  • The widget works on your Home dashboard and also on Office Home, People Home and Brain Home. Each dashboard can hold one Where was I widget.

Add the Where was I widget

  1. Open your Home dashboard. Click Home in the side menu, or click the Desk tab.
  2. Click Customize at the top right of the page. The widgets show an outline and the greeting fades back.
  3. Click Add widget. The widget gallery opens over the page.
  4. Click the Smart chip, or type where in Search widgets.
  5. Click Where was I. Its page shows a live preview of the widget with your own activity.
  6. Choose a size with the arrows either side of the preview, or with the dots under it. The size name shows underneath: Medium or Large. Medium is chosen to start with.
  7. Click Add widget. The widget appears at the end of the board and glows for a moment so you can find it.
  8. Drag the widget to where you want it. The other widgets move aside to make room.
  9. Click Done.

If the Where was I card in the gallery has a tick and says Already on your home, this dashboard already has the widget.

What the widget shows

  • The desk you last worked on. This is the desk behind the most recent thing you did on a desk, such as opening it, adding a widget to it, writing in one of its notes or browsing in one of its Browser widgets.
  • How long ago, for example just now, 12m ago, 3h ago or 2d ago.
  • The last page you opened, after last page:. It is the title of the last web page you opened in a Browser widget, or the site's address when the page has no title. It can come from a different desk from the one shown above it.
  • Resume, which opens the desk.

Until there is something to show, the widget says No trail yet. Work a little and this widget will remember for you.

The widget reads your trail when you open the dashboard, so it shows where you were when you arrived on Home. Medium and Large show the same thing. Large gives the names more room on a wide board.

Get back to where you were

  1. Open your Home dashboard.
  2. Check the desk name and the last page in the Where was I widget.
  3. Click Resume. The desk opens.

Change, resize or remove the widget

Click Customize first. Each widget then shows small buttons on its top-right corner.

  • Change the size. Click the size button. It shows the current size, MD or LG, and each click moves to the next one.
  • Move it. Drag the widget to a new place on the board.
  • Remove it. Click the × button (its tooltip says Remove Where was I). Your activity trail is not changed.

Click Done when you have finished. See Customize your Home dashboard.

Other ways to pick up where you left off

PlexiDesk has a few tools for getting back into your work. They suit different moments:

  • Where was I, this widget, is the quickest way back to the last desk, straight from Home.
  • Welcome back: pick up where you left off Coming soon greets you when you come back to PlexiDesk after time away.
  • Resume: a handoff note for a desk writes a note of where you are on one desk, to read when you return to it.
  • Catch up with 'What was I doing?' Coming soon asks Plexii to sum up your recent activity in the assistant.
  • The Recent activity widget lists the trail itself, so you can go back further than the last desk.

Good ways to use it

  • After a meeting. Put it near the top of Home. When the call ends, one click puts you back on the desk you left.
  • First thing in the morning. Start the day where you stopped yesterday, then check the One thing now widget to see whether something more pressing has come up.
  • Research on the go. The last page line reminds you which article or site you were reading in a Browser widget.

Common questions

It says "No trail yet" but I have been working. The widget looks at the last seven days, and only at activity on a desk. Writing a document in Office, for example, is not activity on a desk. If the desk you were last on has since been archived or deleted, the widget also shows this message. Open a desk, do something on it, then come back to Home.

Why is the last page from a different desk? The last page is the last one you opened in any Browser widget, on any desk. The desk name shows the desk you did anything on most recently.

Does Resume open the web page too? Resume opens the desk. Each Browser widget on it shows the last page it was on.
