Export to PDF and print
Save a document, deck, diagram, design or artwork as a PDF to share or print, and make a print-ready PDF with bleed and crop marks from PlexiDesign.
A PDF looks the same on every computer, which makes it the safest way to send a finished file or to print it. Five of the six PlexiiOffice apps save PDFs. To print, save a PDF and print it from your computer's PDF viewer.
Before you start
- Plans. PDF export works on every plan.
- Spreadsheets. PlexiSheets saves as Excel or CSV rather than PDF. See Import and export Excel and CSV files.
Save a PDF
Open the file, then:
| App | Where |
|---|---|
| PlexiDocs | File > Download > PDF document (.pdf), or File > Print (PDF). Also in the toolbar's folder button, Export PDF. |
| PlexiSlides | File > Download > PDF document (.pdf). |
| PlexiDiagrams | Export in the diagram's toolbar, then PDF. |
| PlexiDesign | File > Download > PDF document (.pdf), or Export in the toolbar, then PDF. |
| PlexiDraw | File > Export PDF… |
Choose where to save the file. It is named after your file to start with. Click Save.
After a document's PDF is saved, a line above the page shows where it went.
What goes into the PDF
- Documents use the document's own paper size (A4 or Letter), orientation and margins, so set those before you export. See Page view, margins, headers and footers.
- Decks come out one slide to a page, in landscape.
- Designs with more than one page come out as a multi-page PDF, one design page to each PDF page.
Print a document
PlexiDocs' File > Print (PDF) saves a PDF laid out for print.
- Choose File > Print (PDF).
- Save the PDF.
- Open it in your computer's PDF viewer and print it from there.
Send a design to a print shop
PlexiDesign can make a print-ready PDF with bleed and crop marks:
- In PlexiDesign, click Export in the toolbar.
- Set Bleed (px): how far the background should extend past the edge of the page.
- Click Print PDF (crop marks).
You can also choose Tools > Print PDF (bleed + crop marks). See Export and print a design.
Common questions
My PDF uses different fonts from the screen. A document's PDF uses a standard print typeface for text that is not given a font of its own. To control the look exactly, export to Word and make the PDF from your word processor.
Can I export a spreadsheet as a PDF? Export it as .xlsx and save a PDF from your spreadsheet program. To show figures in a PDF, you can also copy them into a document as a table.
Where did the PDF go? Where you chose in the save window. For documents, the line above the page shows the full path.
