Set up a dashboard with Plexii
Answer five short questions and Plexii builds your Home dashboard around how you work. Preview it, then keep it or start over. No AI needed.
Choosing widgets is hard before you have used them. Set up with Plexii asks about something you already know, how you work, and builds the dashboard from your answers. You see the result as a live preview, and nothing changes until you say so.
Before you start
- Plans. Set up with Plexii is on every plan.
- No AI needed. PlexiDesk builds the dashboard from your answers on your own computer, so the wizard always finishes. If Plexii's AI is available (PlexiDesk credits when you are signed in, or your own Anthropic key), Plexii then refines the result. See AI credits and where your AI runs Coming soon.
- It replaces the arrangement of one dashboard. When you click Use this dashboard, that dashboard's widgets are replaced by the new set. Your desks, documents and other work are not touched, and your other dashboards stay as they are.
- Some widgets are left for you to add. Pinned desk, Room portal, Desk object, Office document and Pinned conversation each show one thing you choose, so the wizard does not place them. Add them afterwards with Customize.
Start the wizard
- Open your Home dashboard, or Office Home, People Home or Brain Home.
- Click Set up with Plexii at the top right.
- A panel opens. On Home its heading reads Set up your Desks dashboard; on the others it names Office, People or Brain. The counter at the top right shows which question you are on, out of 5.
Answer the questions
Plexii asks one question at a time, like a short conversation. For each one:
- Click one or more answers. A chosen answer shows a tick. Click it again to unchoose it.
- Or write your own. Click Something else…, type your answer, then click Add this or press Enter. Click Edit what you wrote to change it. You can choose answers and write your own on the same question.
- Move on. Click Next, or Skip to leave the question unanswered. On the last question the button reads Build my dashboard.
The third question takes a single answer and moves on as soon as you click one.
The five questions
- What does your work mostly look like? Running projects, Client-facing, Making things, Research and analysis, Keeping things running, or Leading a team. This decides what goes at the top of the page.
- What goes wrong on a bad week? Things slip through, Too many places to look, Never a clear run at anything, Hard to see where things stand, or Deadlines arrive faster than expected. The dashboard puts the thing that bites you first in view.
- How do you like to start the day? A summary of what today holds, A list I can work down, Straight into one thing, or The numbers first. Choose one.
- What do you want to keep half an eye on? What needs me, People and conversations, Open, due and overdue counts, What changed recently, What has gone quiet, or Documents I was just in. These become the small widgets down the side.
- Anything you want one tap away? Start a new desk, Start a meeting, Record and transcribe, My connected apps, or Keep it clean (no shortcut buttons). These become small buttons that take up very little room.
How your answers become widgets
Each answer points towards a few widgets. The widgets your answers point to most often win a place on the board.
| If you choose | It points towards |
|---|---|
| Running projects | Attention, Overdue radar, Pulse |
| Client-facing | Today's agenda, Recent activity, New meeting |
| Making things | Focus timer, Continue, One thing now |
| Research and analysis | Continue, Discover, Rooms and desks |
| Keeping things running | Attention, Overdue radar, Recent activity |
| Leading a team | Team status, Stalled desk, Standup, Recent activity |
| Things slip through | Attention, Overdue radar |
| Too many places to look | Standup, Rooms and desks, Shortcuts |
| Never a clear run at anything | Focus timer, Where was I |
| Hard to see where things stand | Pulse, Stalled desk, Rooms and desks |
| Deadlines arrive faster than expected | Overdue radar, Today's agenda |
| A summary of what today holds | Standup |
| A list I can work down | Attention |
| Straight into one thing | One thing now, Focus timer |
| The numbers first | Pulse |
| What needs me | Attention |
| People and conversations | Team status, Recent activity |
| Open, due and overdue counts | Pulse |
| What changed recently | Recent activity |
| What has gone quiet | Stalled desk |
| Documents I was just in | Continue |
| Start a new desk | New desk |
| Start a meeting | New meeting |
| Record and transcribe | Transcribe |
| My connected apps | App launcher |
Keep it clean leaves out the widgets that only launch something: New desk, New meeting, Transcribe, App launcher, Discover, Create new, Quick actions and Shortcuts.
If you write your own answers, words about deadlines, focus, writing, numbers and reports, your team, clients and meetings, ideas and research, or recording give the matching widgets a small nudge.
Team status is offered on People Home only, so on the other dashboards that part of an answer is skipped.
Review your dashboard
When the questions run out, Plexii shows the dashboard it built:
- A live preview. These are your real widgets with your real content, scaled down, so what you see is what you get.
- A line for each widget, with its size and a short reason it is there, in terms of what you said.
- At most eight widgets: up to three in the main area and up to five smaller ones. The first is the headline and is shown Large. The other main widgets are Medium where they come in that size.
Next, refining… shows beside the opening line for a moment. If Plexii's AI is available, Plexii may change the order, the sizes or which widgets are included, always choosing from the widgets offered on that dashboard, and it may replace the opening line with its own summary. Without AI, the dashboard you see is the one you keep.
If you skipped every question, you still get a sensible starting dashboard to build on.
Apply it, or not
At the bottom of the panel:
- Use this dashboard applies it. The panel closes and your dashboard changes to the preview.
- Not now closes the panel and changes nothing.
- Start over clears your answers and goes back to the first question.
Closing the panel at any point, with the × at the top right, Esc or a click outside it, also changes nothing.
After you apply
- Fine-tune it. Click Customize to move widgets, change sizes, and add the ones the wizard leaves to you, such as a Pinned desk or an Office document. See Customize your Home dashboard.
- Go back to the starting layout. In Customize mode, click Reset layout.
- Run it again whenever your work changes. Click Set up with Plexii and answer afresh.
On Office, People and Brain Home
The same five questions work on every area's Home, and the result leans towards what that area is for:
- Office Home favours Continue and Create new.
- People Home favours Team status and Recent activity.
- Brain Home favours Discover, Rooms and desks, and Continue.
Each dashboard keeps its own layout, so setting up one leaves the others as they are.
Common questions
Do I need Plexii's AI for this? No. The wizard builds a complete dashboard from your answers without it. With AI, Plexii can refine the result.
Will it remove my widgets? Only if you click Use this dashboard, and then only from that dashboard's board. Your work itself is never touched. If you change your mind, use Customize to adjust, or Reset layout to return to the starting widgets.
Why did it not add my favourite desk? Widgets that show one particular desk, room, object, document or chat need you to choose it, so add them yourself with Customize and Add widget.
I chose Leading a team but there is no Team status on Home. Team status is offered on People Home only. Run the wizard on People Home to include it.
Can I keep some of my current widgets? The wizard replaces the whole arrangement. Apply it, then use Customize to add back any widget you want to keep.
