Undo and redo

Press ⌘Z or Ctrl+Z to take back a change to your rooms, desks and widgets, and ⌘⇧Z or Ctrl+Shift+Z to redo it. Deletes also offer an Undo button.

All plansUpdated

PlexiDesk keeps one undo history for the changes you make to your workspace: adding, moving and removing widgets, creating, renaming and moving rooms and desks, and more. If something moves or disappears when you did not mean it to, undo puts it back. Redo puts the change back again if you undo one step too many.

Undo works the same way on every plan. There is nothing to set up.

Undo or redo with the keyboard

  1. Click an empty part of the desk or page, so the cursor is not in a text box.
  2. Press ⌘ Z on a Mac or Ctrl Z on Windows to undo your last change. Press it again to keep going back, one step at a time.
  3. To redo, press ⌘ ⇧ Z on a Mac or Ctrl Shift Z on Windows.

Each time, a short message at the bottom of the window confirms what happened. It starts with Undid or Redid and names the change, then fades.

Redo is there until you make a new change. As soon as you do something new, the steps you could have redone are cleared.

Undo from the message after a delete

When you delete something, such as a widget, a room or desk, a table row or an Office file, a dark message appears at the bottom centre of the window. It names what you removed and has an Undo button. It stays for about seven seconds.

For example, to bring back a widget you removed:

  1. Look for the message at the bottom of the window. It appears after you remove a widget with the × on its title bar (and confirm Remove from the desk?) or with Delete on its right-click menu.
  2. Click Undo.
  3. The widget comes back where it was, with its content and its connections to other widgets.

If the message has already gone, click an empty part of the desk and press ⌘ Z on a Mac or Ctrl Z on Windows. To close the message without undoing, click its ×.

The same message, with Undo, also appears after a few other actions, such as booking time in Calendar or filing an item to Attention.

What you can undo

Where What you can undo
Rooms and desks Creating, renaming, moving, moving to Trash, and changing a desk's description or details such as status, priority, importance and due date.
Widgets Adding, removing, moving, resizing and recolouring widgets, and moving a widget into or out of a section. Moving or aligning several selected widgets together counts as one step.
Connections Drawing a connection between two widgets. See Link widgets and set up wires.
Tables Adding a row and deleting a row. Rows that AI or an import added come off together in one step.
Calendar Booking time, editing a booked block, deleting a block or a repeating series, and accepting a planned day, which undoes as one step.
Office files Moving an Office file to Trash.
Plexii's changes Apply all or Apply selected on Plexii's suggested changes undoes as one step. So do the widgets that Build with AI adds to a desk. See Review and apply Plexii's changes Coming soon.
Attention Filing an item. Undo dismisses the item you just filed.

When one undo removes several things at once, that is because they arrived together in a single action. Press ⌘ ⇧ Z (or Ctrl Shift Z) if you want them back.

Where undo works differently

  • Typing. Text you type in a widget, a text box or a title has its own undo. Press ⌘ Z or Ctrl Z while the cursor is still in it. This includes renaming a widget.
  • The Office editors. Inside PlexiiDocs, PlexiiSheets, PlexiiSlides, PlexiiDesign and PlexiiDraw, ⌘ Z or Ctrl Z undoes your edits to that file using the editor's own history. In PlexiiSlides, Undo and Redo are also in the command palette. See The editor header, saving and the File menu Coming soon.
  • Files. The Files page has its own Undo and Redo buttons at the top, and ⌘ Z or Ctrl Z there undoes changes to your files and folders. See Files overview Coming soon.
  • Sending. Email and chat messages you have sent are not part of undo.

How far back you can go

Undo remembers your last 100 steps while PlexiDesk is open, and starts fresh each time you open the app. To get something back from an earlier session:

  • Rooms and desks you moved to Trash wait there until you restore them or they are cleared. See Archive, trash and restore rooms and desks.
  • Office files you moved to Trash can be restored from the Documents page. See Delete and restore Office files Coming soon.

Common questions

I pressed ⌘Z and nothing happened. The cursor was probably in a text box, so the shortcut went to that box. Click an empty part of the desk and try again. On the Files page and inside an Office editor, the shortcut belongs to that page. If there is nothing left to undo, nothing changes.

One undo removed several widgets. Why? They were added in one action, such as Build with AI or Apply all on Plexii's suggestions, so they undo together. Press ⌘ ⇧ Z (or Ctrl Shift Z) to redo if you want them back.

I undid a new desk. Where did it go? Undoing the creation of a room or desk moves it to Trash. Press redo to bring it straight back, or restore it from Trash later.

Can I undo after restarting PlexiDesk? Not with the shortcut, because undo starts fresh each time you open the app. Restore deleted rooms and desks from Trash, or use Desk history to go back to an earlier state of a desk.
