Rooms and desks widget
Browse your rooms and their desks from the dashboard, open any desk in one click and start a new desk in the room you picked.
Rooms and desks puts your rooms and desks on your dashboard. Your rooms are on the left; click one and its desks appear on the right, ready to open. Home and Brain Home start with it, so it is often the quickest way into your work.
Before you start
- Plans. The widget is on every plan. New desk works on every plan too: the Free plan limits how many rooms you have, not how many desks. See What each plan includes Coming soon.
- Size. It has one size, Large.
- Where it goes. Home and Brain Home start with it. You can also add it to Office Home or People Home, once on each dashboard.
What the widget shows
Rooms, on the left
- Top level is always first. It holds the desks that are not in any room.
- Your rooms follow, the one changed most recently first. Rooms inside other rooms are not listed here.
- Under each name is the number of desks directly inside it, such as 4 desks.
The selected room is highlighted and has an arrow beside it.
Desks, on the right
The desks in the selected room, up to eight, the one edited most recently first. Each desk shows its name and when it was last edited, such as Edited 2h ago. If the room has no desks, you see No desks in here yet.
All rooms
All rooms, at the top right of the widget, opens the All rooms page with every room you have. See Browse All rooms and All desks.
Open a desk or a room
- Click a room on the left, or Top level. Its desks appear on the right.
- Click a desk to open it.
To open the room itself, click the selected room a second time (its tooltip says Open room). The room's page opens, listing all of its desks, including any beyond the eight the widget shows.
Start a new desk
- On the left, click the room you want the desk in, or Top level.
- Under the desks, click New desk in this room. With Top level selected, the button says New desk.
A desk called "New desk" is created in that room and opens straight away. To give it a name, see Rename a desk and move it to a room.
For a desk with a name, a template, notes or a due date from the start, use New desk at the top of the side menu instead. See Create a desk.
Add the widget to a dashboard
Home and Brain Home already have it. To add it to Office Home or People Home, or to put it back after removing it:
- Open the dashboard and click Customize at the top right.
- Click Add widget.
- Click Navigation, or type "rooms" in Search widgets.
- Click Rooms and desks. A live preview shows your own rooms.
- Click Add widget. It appears at the end of the dashboard.
- Drag it to where you want it, then click Done.
If the card says Already on your home, this dashboard already has the widget. Set up with Plexii can also include it when it builds a dashboard for you. See Set up your dashboard with Plexii.
Move or remove it
- Click Customize.
- Drag the widget to a new place, or click the × on its top right corner to take it off the dashboard.
- Click Done.
Removing the widget does not change your rooms or desks.
Good ways to use it
- Make it your way in. Start the day on Home: click a room, then the desk you need.
- Let the order work for you. The rooms changed most recently and the desks edited most recently come first, so current work stays in view.
- Capture an idea fast. Click the room it belongs in, click New desk in this room, and rename the desk once you are on it.
Common questions
A room is missing from the list
The widget lists rooms at the top level. Rooms inside another room, and archived rooms, do not appear. Click All rooms to find any room. See Archive, delete and restore desks to bring back an archived room.
A room has more desks than the widget shows
The widget shows the eight desks you edited most recently. Click the room a second time to open it and see every desk in it.
The desk count looks low
The number under a room counts the desks directly in that room. Desks inside its sub-rooms are not included.
