Auto-fill a connected app from the Vault
Bind a Vault login to a connected app, and PlexiDesk fills in the username and password on its sign-in page, in the app and in its Browser widgets.
If you keep a site's login in the Vault, PlexiDesk can fill it in for you. Bind the login to the site's connected app once. From then on, whenever the app's sign-in page loads and the Vault is unlocked, PlexiDesk fills in the username and password, in the app itself and in every Browser widget for it on your desks. You check the details and sign in.
Before you start
- Auto-fill is on every plan.
- You need a connected app for the site. See Add and use connected apps.
- You need a Vault, unlocked. See Store passwords in the Vault. You can save the login while you bind it, so it does not have to be in the Vault already.
Bind a login to an app
- Open the connected app: click it under Connected Apps in the side menu while a desk is open. It fills the window.
- Click the key button in the app's toolbar. Its tooltip says Bind vault credentials for auto-fill. The Auto-fill panel opens.
- Choose the login:
- Click a saved login in the list. The panel closes and the login is bound.
- Or save a new one: click Save new credentials, type the username or email and the password, and click save + bind. The login is saved to your Vault under the app's name and address, and bound to the app.
The key button is highlighted while a login is bound, and its tooltip says Vault binding — auto-fill enabled.
If the Vault is locked, the panel says Vault is locked. Open the Vault from the sidebar and unlock it to bind credentials here. Unlock the Vault, then click the key button again. To open the Vault, go to Settings > Data > Open the vault, or press ⌘ K (Ctrl K on Windows) and choose Vault.
How auto-fill works
- When: each time a page of the app finishes loading, PlexiDesk fills in the login once.
- Where: in the connected app, and in every Browser widget made from it, such as one you dragged onto a desk from Connected Apps. See Keep a site signed in on your desks.
- What: the username and the password from the bound login, into the page's first username or email box and its password box. Boxes that already hold something are left alone. Two-step codes are not filled in.
- Only on the app's own site. PlexiDesk fills in the login only on the app's own address and its sub-domains, such as a separate sign-in address of the same site, and never on another site.
- It does not sign in for you. Check the details, then click the site's own sign-in button.
- Only while the Vault is unlocked. If the Vault is locked, nothing is filled in. Unlock it and reload the page.
Pause or remove auto-fill
Click the key button to open the Auto-fill panel again.
- To pause it, click enabled at the top of the panel so it reads disabled. The login stays bound. Click again to turn it back on. Its tooltip says Toggle auto-fill for this app.
- To remove the login from the app, click Unlink beside it. The login stays in your Vault.
- To use a different login, click another login in the list.
Tips
- Bind once per app. Every Browser widget for the app uses the same binding, on every desk.
- Keep the Vault unlocked while you work if you sign in often, and lock it when you step away.
- Use the Vault for the two-step code. Auto-fill does not enter two-step codes, but the Vault shows the current one, with Copy current TOTP code. See Store passwords in the Vault.
Common questions
Nothing was filled in. Check, in order:
- The Vault is unlocked: the footer shows Local · encrypted with a green, open padlock. See The footer bar.
- A login is bound and auto-fill is enabled: open the key button's panel.
- The page is on the app's own site. A sign-in page on a different company's site is not filled in.
- The boxes were empty. Auto-fill leaves boxes that already hold text alone.
- Reload the page, since auto-fill runs as a page loads.
Only the password was filled in, not the username. The page's username box could not be recognised. Type the username yourself; the password is still filled in.
Does auto-fill work in ordinary Browser widgets? Only in Browser widgets that belong to a connected app. To make a site a connected app, click pin to apps on its Browser widget. See Keep a site signed in on your desks.
Can I bind the same login to two apps? Yes. Open each app's Auto-fill panel and click the same login.
