Light, dark and colour themes

Choose Light, Dark or Auto, or a styled theme such as Atelier or Gemstone, and pick the accent colour used for buttons, highlights and links.

The Appearance tab of Settings sets how PlexiDesk looks: light or dark, or one of three styled themes, and the accent colour that marks buttons, highlights, selections and links throughout the app.

Before you start

  • Every theme and accent is on every plan.
  • Your choice is kept on this computer. On another computer, choose it there too.
  • New installs start on Auto, with the Violet accent.

Choose a theme

  1. Click the gear at the right-hand end of the header. Its tooltip says Appearance settings — theme, accent colour and font.
  2. Settings opens on the Appearance tab.
  3. Under Theme, click the theme you want.

The whole app changes at once, with a short fade and a ripple of the new accent from where you clicked.

Theme What it looks like
Light Light surfaces and dark text.
Dark Dark surfaces and light text.
Auto Follows your computer: light while your computer is in light mode, dark while it is in dark mode. It switches by itself when your computer does.
Futuristic A dark, high-tech look. If sound effects are on, a short power-up sound plays as you switch to it, and a power-down sound as you leave it.
Atelier Deep navy with warm cream surfaces and a heritage-gold accent. Atelier always uses its gold accent, whichever accent you choose.
Gemstone A near-black ground with faceted glass surfaces and a soft sparkle in your accent colour. The Emerald, Ruby and Sapphire accents are tuned for it.

Futuristic, Atelier and Gemstone are all dark themes.

Choose an accent colour

Under Accent, click a colour: Violet, Blue, Emerald, Ruby, Sapphire, Rose or Heritage.

The accent marks the active tab, selected items, main buttons and links. Each accent has a light and a dark version, so it stays readable in every theme.

To use any colour you like, open Theme studio… below the accents and choose Custom colour. See Theme studio: fonts, text size, density and canvas look.

Tips

  • Use Auto if your computer switches between light and dark through the day. PlexiDesk follows it.
  • Choose an accent that stands out from your desks. If your desks are full of blue widgets, a Rose or Emerald accent makes selections easier to spot.
  • For easier reading, try the Atkinson Hyperlegible or Lexend font, or a larger text size, in Theme studio. See also Use the desk with a keyboard or screen reader.

Common questions

I chose an accent but nothing changed. You are on the Atelier theme, which always uses its heritage-gold accent. Choose another theme to see your accent.

Auto is not switching. Auto follows the light or dark setting of your computer. Check your computer's appearance settings.

Can I give each desk its own colours? The theme and accent apply to the whole app. To change the background behind your desks, use Canvas background in Theme studio.

My theme is different on my other computer. Themes are kept on each computer. Choose it again there.
