Pulse widget

Four live counts on Home: open, due today, overdue and closed in the last seven days. Click any number to open the Attention page.

All plansUpdated

Pulse sums up the state of your work in four numbers: how much is open, what is due today, what is overdue and how much you closed this week. Keep it on Home to see at a glance whether anything is slipping. Click any number to go to the Attention page and deal with it.

Where you find it

  • Home and Brain Home include Pulse, at its Small size, when you start out. See The Home dashboard.
  • It comes in two sizes: Small (where it starts) and Medium, a wider tile. Both show the same four numbers.

Before you start

  • The widget is on every plan.
  • Pulse counts the items Attention keeps track of: the tasks on your desks, such as those in a Tasks widget, and anything captured into Attention. A desk itself is not counted, only the tasks on it.
  • To capture items into Attention, and to let Plexii file things there for you, turn the Attention layer on. See Turn Attention on or off Coming soon.

Every number is counted directly from your items. Nothing is estimated and no AI is involved, so a zero means there is nothing to count.

What each number means

  • Open: everything that still needs doing, whatever its status, for example not started, in progress or waiting on someone. Items you have snoozed are counted too.
  • Due today: open items due later today. Once an item's due time has passed it moves to Overdue, so it is never counted twice.
  • Overdue: open items whose due date and time have passed.
  • Closed · 7d: items closed in the last seven days, whatever word closed them, such as Done, Reviewed or Responded. Items you archived, or let go without doing, are not counted.

Click any of the four numbers to open the Attention page, where you can see and work through the items. See Attention: everything that needs you Coming soon.

Act on what you see

  • Something is overdue. Open the Attention page and close, reschedule or snooze each item. To keep the overdue items themselves on Home, add the Overdue radar widget.
  • Something is due today. The Today's agenda widget lists today's due work beside your meetings and focus time.
  • Open keeps growing. Close what is finished and archive what you are keeping but not doing. See Close, snooze, archive and edit an item Coming soon.

To see exactly the items behind a number, use the Attention filters in the side menu: click the arrow beside Attention, then choose Open, Due today, Overdue or Closed 7d. See Filter Attention: due today, overdue, waiting and more Coming soon. The filters count a little differently from Pulse: the Due today filter also includes overdue items, and the Open filter leaves out snoozed items.

Add it to a dashboard

  1. Open the dashboard you want: Home in the side menu, or Office Home, People Home or Brain Home in those areas' menus. See Desk, Office, People and Brain: the four areas.
  2. Click Customize at the top right of the dashboard.
  3. Click Add widget.
  4. Click Live, or type "pulse" in Search widgets.
  5. Click Pulse. A live preview shows your own numbers.
  6. Use the arrows beside the preview, or the dots under it, to choose Small or Medium.
  7. Click Add widget. The widget appears at the end of the board, briefly highlighted.
  8. Drag it to where you want it, then click Done.

If the Pulse card shows a tick and Already on your home, it is already on this dashboard. Each dashboard can have one Pulse widget.

Resize, move or remove it

  1. Click Customize.
  2. To change the size, click the size button at the widget's top right corner. It shows the current size (SM or MD), and each click switches to the other one.
  3. To move the widget, press and drag it to a new spot.
  4. To remove it, click the × at its top right corner (Remove Pulse).
  5. Click Done, or press Esc.

Your arrangement is saved on this computer, separately for each dashboard. See Customize your Home dashboard.

Good ways to use it

  • A morning check. Glance at Overdue and Due today before you plan the day.
  • A weekly review. Closed · 7d shows how much you finished this week. The Recent activity widget lists the latest of those items by name.
  • Next to the things it counts. Place Pulse beside Today's agenda or the Overdue radar so the numbers and the items sit together.

Common questions

Pulse shows 0 but I have work to do. Pulse counts the tasks on your desks and the items in Attention, not desks themselves. Add tasks to a desk, or capture what needs doing into Attention. See Capture something into Attention Coming soon.

Why did Due today go down and Overdue go up? An item that was due earlier today counts as overdue once its due time passes.

Does Pulse use AI? No. It counts your items as they are.

Can I make Pulse show different numbers? No. Pulse always shows these four. For other views of your work, see the Attention widget (Home).
