Let Plexii work on a web page
Ask Plexii to read, scroll, follow links or fill in a web page for you, one visible step at a time, with a running cost and a Stop button.
Plexii can work on a web page for you inside PlexiDesk's browser. Tell it what you want, such as "summarise this article", "pull the price list into a table" or "find five alternatives to this product", and it drives the page itself: reading, scrolling, following links, searching and filling in forms. You watch every step as it happens, see what it is costing, and can stop it at any moment.
Before you start
- Pro and Team plans include Plexii browsing for you.
- Plexii needs AI to run. See AI credits and where your AI runs.
- Plexii asks before it acts on a new site. Reading a page needs no permission. The first time Plexii wants to click or type on a site, it asks you. See Allow, limit or revoke Plexii on websites.
Start Plexii on a page
Plexii works in PlexiDesk's own browser, on the page you can see. Use either:
- The Browser in Office. Open Office and choose Browser, go to the page, then click Ask Plexii in the toolbar, or the Let Plexii do something here button at the bottom of the page. See Browse the web inside PlexiDesk.
- Plexii's browser panel. When a web page opens beside your work, for example from a web source in an answer, click the Plexii mark in the panel's toolbar (Let Plexii do something on this page), or Let Plexii do something here at the bottom.
A box opens that asks What should Plexii do on this page?
- Type what you want and press Enter. Or click one of the ready-made jobs below the box.
- Plexii starts straight away. Press Esc or click the cross to close the box without starting.
You can also ask in a conversation. When a task needs the web, Plexii may offer a Let Plexii browse card. Applying it opens the browser panel and starts the run. See Everything Plexii can create or change.
Ready-made jobs
| Job | What Plexii does |
|---|---|
| Summarise | Reads the whole page, scrolling to the end, and writes a summary, noting any facts, figures and dates. |
| Links | Gathers the links that matter on the page, skipping menus, sign-in and footer links. |
| Images | Gathers the content images, skipping logos and icons, with a description from the image's own text where there is one. |
| Extract data | Pulls the listings, rows, products or people on the page into records with the same columns for each, scrolling to catch every row. |
| Find similar | Works out what the page is about and finds at least five comparable options elsewhere, with what makes each different, a link and a price if there is one. |
| Research | Researches the page's subject across several sources, with a link for every fact, and notes where sources disagree. |
While Plexii works
A panel at the bottom of the browser shows the run:
- Plexii is browsing, followed by your task.
- A line saying what it is doing now, such as "Reading the page…" or the step it has just taken.
- The cost so far, such as $0.02, or <$0.01 for a short run. Rest the pointer on it to see how much AI it has used.
- Stop, which ends the run straight away.
- A count of steps. Click it to list each step: what Plexii clicked, typed, chose, opened or scrolled. Click a step to see more, such as what it was aiming at and how much of the page it could see.
Guide it while it works
If Plexii is heading the wrong way, tell it. Type in the box that reads Guide it — e.g. "only UK suppliers", "skip the blog posts" and press Enter or click Send. The panel says Passed on — it will pick this up on its next step.
Your words are added to the task rather than replacing it, so nothing Plexii has already found is lost, unless you plainly ask it to change course.
What Plexii never does
Some steps are always left to you. When Plexii reaches one, it stops short and the step shows as held back:
- Signing in. It never types into password fields or submits sign-in forms.
- Paying. It never enters card details or submits a payment.
- Moving files. It never uploads or downloads files.
- CAPTCHAs. A "prove you're human" check needs you.
If a page needs you to sign in, sign in yourself in the same browser, then click Try again. PlexiDesk's browsers share one sign-in, so once you are signed in, Plexii can carry on as you.
How a run ends
| Header | What happened |
|---|---|
| Done | Plexii finished the task. A summary of what it did shows underneath. |
| Stopped | You clicked Stop. |
| Plexii needs you | Plexii reached something only you can do, such as signing in, and says what. Do it, then click Try again. |
| Not run | You answered No when Plexii asked to act on the site. |
| Paused | The run used up its steps before the task was finished. Run it again with a narrower task. |
| Did not finish | Something went wrong. |
If Plexii found things, they show under the result, such as Found 12 results with the first few listed. Click Put on a desk… to place them on a desk as a table and a written summary. See Put what Plexii found onto a desk.
Click the cross to dismiss a finished run.
Tips
- Say what to collect. "List each supplier with name, location and minimum order" gives you a tidy table at the end.
- Start on the right page. Plexii works from the page you can see, so open the best starting point first.
- Steer early. If the first few steps go somewhere unhelpful, guide it rather than stopping and starting again.
Common questions
Plexii asked "Let Plexii act on this site?" That is the first time it wants to click or type on that site. Choose Always allow, Just this once or No. See Allow, limit or revoke Plexii on websites.
Where are the results? Under the finished run, until you dismiss it. To keep them, click Put on a desk…. See Put what Plexii found onto a desk.
It said Paused. A run has a limited number of steps. Make the task smaller, for example one category at a time, and run it again.
Does it see my passwords? No. It never types into password or card fields, and never submits sign-in or payment forms.
