Continue widget
Reopen the documents edited most recently in your workspace straight from Home, with All documents one click away for everything else.
The Continue widget gets you back into your work in one click. It shows the documents edited most recently in the workspace you are in, newest first, under the title Continue where you left off. Use it to pick up the document you were writing yesterday, or the sheet you were half way through, without searching for it.
Where you find it
- Home, Office Home and Brain Home include Continue, at its Large size, when you start out. See The Home dashboard.
- It comes in two sizes: Medium shows your two most recent documents, and Large shows four.
Before you start
- The widget is on every plan.
- It lists your Office documents, such as documents, spreadsheets and presentations, from the workspace you are in. When you switch to another workspace, it shows that workspace's documents. See Organisation settings and switching workspaces Coming soon.
- Archived documents and documents in the trash are left out.
What it shows
Each document is a tile with:
- an icon for its kind
- its title, or Untitled if it has none
- its kind and how long ago it was last edited, for example Spreadsheet, edited 2h ago
The time reads just now, then minutes (m), hours (h) and days (d), and after a week the date.
When there are no documents yet, the widget says Nothing to pick up yet. Create a document and it will wait for you here. See Create a document, sheet, deck, diagram, design or artwork Coming soon.
Open a document
- Click a tile. The document opens in its editor.
- To see all your documents, click All documents at the top right of the widget. The Documents page opens. See The Documents page Coming soon.
Add it to a dashboard
- Open the dashboard you want: Home in the side menu, or Office Home, People Home or Brain Home in those areas' menus. See Desk, Office, People and Brain: the four areas.
- Click Customize at the top right of the dashboard.
- Click Add widget.
- Click Live, or type "continue" in Search widgets.
- Click Continue. A live preview shows your own documents.
- Use the arrows beside the preview, or the dots under it, to choose Medium or Large.
- Click Add widget. The widget appears at the end of the board, briefly highlighted.
- Drag it to where you want it, then click Done.
If the Continue card shows a tick and Already on your home, it is already on this dashboard. Each dashboard can have one Continue widget.
Resize, move or remove it
- Click Customize.
- To change the size, click the size button at the widget's top right corner. It shows the current size (MD or LG), and each click switches to the other one.
- To move the widget, press and drag it to a new spot.
- To remove it, click the × at its top right corner (Remove Continue).
- Click Done, or press Esc.
Your arrangement is saved on this computer, separately for each dashboard. See Customize your Home dashboard.
Good ways to use it
- Start where you stopped. Open Home and click the first tile to carry on with the last document you worked on.
- On Office Home. Office Home starts with Continue beside the Office document widget, so the document you keep open and the ones you have just worked on sit together.
- Keep one document fixed. Continue changes as you work. To keep a particular document on a dashboard, use the Office document widget, or add it to a Shortcuts widget. You can also star it. See Find, star and pin your Office files Coming soon.
Common questions
The document I want is not there. Continue shows only the two or four most recently edited documents. Click All documents to see the rest, or search for it. See Find, star and pin your Office files Coming soon.
Why are my desks not listed? Continue lists documents only. To get back to a desk, use the Rooms and desks widget or the Where was I widget.
Why are my PDFs and other files not listed? Continue lists Office documents. Other files are in Files. See Files: your folders and files Coming soon.
A document from my other workspace is missing. Continue shows the documents of the workspace you are in. Switch to the other workspace with the workspace switcher at the top of the side menu to see its documents.
