Word, PDF and web export in PlexiiDocs

Bring a Word file into PlexiiDocs, and save a document as a Word file, a PDF or a web page, with its page setup, header and footer.

All plansUpdated

PlexiiDocs reads Word files and writes them back. Import a .docx someone sent you, work on it in PlexiiDocs, then send it back as a Word file or a PDF. You can also save a document as a web page.

Before you start

  • Plans. Importing and exporting work on every plan.
  • Word files must be .docx. For an older .doc file, open it in Word and save it as .docx first.

Import a Word file

Into the document you have open

  1. Click where the Word file's contents should go.
  2. Click the folder button near the right end of the toolbar (Open or export Office files) and choose Import Word (.docx).
  3. Choose the .docx file and click Open.

The contents are added at your cursor, with their headings, lists, tables, pictures and basic formatting. The document also takes the Word file's paper size, orientation, margins, header and footer. A line above the page says Imported. Word styling is approximated, not pixel-perfect.

You can also press ⌘ K on a Mac (Ctrl K on Windows) in a document and choose Import Word (.docx).

As a new document

On a desk, click Add widget, choose Document, then Import a file and pick the .docx file. A new document is made, named after the Word file, and placed on the desk. It is kept in Office too. See Document widget.

The Word file on your computer is never changed.

Export as a Word file

  1. Choose File > Download > Microsoft Word (.docx). Or use the toolbar's folder button and choose Export Word (.docx).
  2. Choose where to save it. It is named after the document to start with.
  3. Click Save.

A line above the page shows where the file was saved.

The Word file uses the document's paper size, orientation and margins, and carries its header and footer. Page numbers are included if you ticked Show page number for the header or footer. If you have never set up a footer, the Word file has page numbers in its footer.

Export as a PDF

Choose File > Download > PDF document (.pdf), or the toolbar's Export PDF, then choose where to save it.

The PDF uses the document's paper size, orientation and margins. See Export to PDF and print.

Export as a web page

Choose File > Download > Web page (.html), then choose where to save it. The file holds the document's text and formatting as HTML, ready to open in a browser or paste into a website's editor.

Common questions

The imported document does not look exactly like the Word file. Word and PlexiiDocs lay out text in slightly different ways. Look over headings, spacing and fonts after importing.

Import added the Word file to the middle of my document. Import adds the contents at your cursor. Press ⌘ Z or Ctrl Z, then click where you want it and import again, or import into a new document from a desk.

I imported a Word file and my margins changed. Importing takes the Word file's page setup. Change it back in the bar above the page. See Page view, margins, headers and footers.
