Stat card widget
Watch one number from a table, with its percentage change, a sparkline of its readings and the count of rows it was measured from.
A Stat card shows one number worth watching, large and easy to read, with how much it has changed and a small line of the readings behind it. The number is worked out from a table, so it stays up to date as the table changes, and the card always says how many rows it was measured from.
Use a Stat card for the one figure you check every day, such as orders this month or open support requests. For several figures side by side, use a Metrics widget instead.
More about this widget Coming soon
Before you start
- The Stat card is on every plan.
- You need a desk open to add one.
- The number comes from a table, so you need a Table widget with your data in it. It can be on any desk in your workspace. See Table widget.
- To describe the number in words and have AI set it up, AI needs to be available: PlexiDesk credits while you are signed in, or your own Anthropic key. See AI credits and where your AI runs Coming soon. Everything else works without AI.
Add a Stat card
- Open the desk you want it on.
- Click Add widget in the centre of the header.
- Click Stat card.
The Add widget menu groups widgets into columns by what they are for. Stat card is in the Numbers & data column. You can also type stat in the search box at the top of the menu and press Enter.
You can also press ⌘ K on a Mac or Ctrl K on Windows, type stat and choose Add Stat card. In the tool rail's Add widget picker, it is under Advanced: click Advanced to show it.
A new Stat card opens at 340 × 240 and starts empty. It says No figures yet and explains that the card shows one number, how it is moving, and the readings behind it.
Connect it to a table
- Click Connect it to a table. The card turns into the Data source editor.
- Choose where the number comes from. Either:
- type what you want in the Describe it box, for example "orders per month", and click Build; or
- type part of a table's name or a column's name in …or search tables and columns, then click the table.
- Set Trend by to a date column, such as the date of each order, and choose day, week, month, quarter or year. This is what draws the line on the card.
- Check Measure, Column, Only rows where and Show as. The Preview at the bottom shows the number you will get.
- Click Done (the tick at the top right of the editor).
Each setting is explained in Connect a number to a table.
Read the card
Once it is connected, the card shows, from top to bottom:
- The label. The name of the table you picked, or the short title AI gave the number when you used Build. The tune icon at the right of this line opens the Data source editor again.
- The number. It is worked out from every row that matches the filters you set.
- The change. When the trend has at least two readings, an arrow and a percentage show how the number has moved from the first reading to the latest one. Green and up means it has risen, red and down means it has fallen, and a grey dash means no change. If the first reading was zero, the arrow appears with a dash instead of a percentage, because no percentage can be worked out from zero.
- Where it came from. A small line such as 28 of 40 rows shows how many rows matched, out of all the rows in the table. If the table has no rows yet, it says The table is empty.
- The sparkline. A line across the bottom of the card shows each reading in the trend, oldest on the left. It takes the colour of the change: green when the number has risen, red when it has fallen, grey when it is flat.
A dash in place of the number means there was nothing to measure, for example no matching row had a number in the column you chose.
Change what the card measures
- Click the tune icon to the right of the label. Its tooltip says Change the data source.
- Change the settings. Each change is made as you go, and the Preview updates.
- Click Done to go back to the card.
Keeping up to date
You do not need to refresh anything. When a row is added, changed or removed in the table, the number, the change and the line are worked out again.
The title bar
The title bar's buttons appear when you rest the pointer on the card. You can rename it, pin it to a corner of the screen, make it bigger or smaller, open it larger, or remove it. Right-click the title bar for the menu every widget shares. See The controls on every widget and Right-click menus.
The title bar starts with an AI button (the sparkle). The Stat card has no AI of its own, so this button opens the Plexii panel with the card attached to your message. Plexii can then read the figure, so you can ask about it. To have AI set up the number, use Build in the Data source editor. See Use a widget's AI button.
Sharing, import and export
- Live view. When you publish a live view of a desk, a Stat card shows as a placeholder rather than its number. See Publish a live view of a desk.
- Import. A Stat card has no data of its own to import. To bring figures in, import them into the table it reads. See Import CSV, JSON or Excel into a table.
- Export. To take the data out, copy it from the table. See Move around a table and copy cells.
Good uses
- Sales this month. The sum of an Amount column, shown as currency, trending by month.
- Sign-ups this week. The number of rows in a Sign-ups table, trending by day.
- Average rating. The average of a Rating column, trending by month, so you can see whether it is drifting.
- The figure a meeting starts with. Pin the card to a corner of the screen so it stays in view while you move around the desk.
Common questions
There is no line on my card. The line needs a trend. Click the tune icon and set Trend by to a date column. You also need rows in at least two periods, such as two different months, before a line and a change can show.
What does the percentage compare? The first reading in the trend with the latest one, for example the first month in the table with the most recent month.
Why does the card show a dash? There was nothing to measure. Check the line under the number: if no rows match, loosen the filters; if rows match, check that the column you chose holds numbers. See Connect a number to a table.
Is the big number for the latest period only? No. The big number covers every row that matches your filters. The trend splits the same rows into periods to draw the line and work out the change. To show one period only, add a filter on the date column, for example the date is on or after the first day of the month.
Can the card read a table on another desk? Yes. The search in the Data source editor lists the tables in your whole workspace.
