Point Plexii at specific things with @
Type @ to point Plexii at a desk, room, document, widget, file, Brain entry or person, or click a widget on your desk. Plexii reads them on every message.
Plexii already searches your workspace for anything that might help with a question. When you know exactly what you mean, say so: type @ and pick it. The item becomes a chip in your message, and Plexii reads it in full rather than hoping a search turns it up. You can also click a widget on your desk while Plexii is open to add it the same way.
Use mentions when you want Plexii to work from one particular document, compare two desks, summarise a widget, or answer with a colleague's role in mind.
Before you start
- Every plan includes mentions.
- Plexii needs AI to run. See AI credits and where your AI runs.
- People appear only when you are signed in to an organisation. In a personal workspace, or when you are signed out, the list offers no people.
Mention something with @
- Open Plexii and click in the box at the bottom of the conversation.
- Type @. A list opens with your desks and rooms straight away.
- Keep typing to narrow the list. After two letters it also searches your documents, widgets, files and Brain entries. Titles with spaces work, so keep typing the whole name if you need to.
- Use ↑ and ↓ to move through the list, then press Enter or Tab to pick the highlighted item. You can also click it.
- Finish your message and press Enter to send.
The item appears as a chip in your message, and again in a row of chips just above the box. The @ opens the list only at the start of a word, so typing an email address does not set it off.
If nothing matches, the list reads Nothing found. Mention a desk, document, widget, file or PlexiBrain entry.
What you can mention
| Kind | What Plexii reads |
|---|---|
| Desk | What is on the desk |
| Room | What is in the room |
| Document | The document's text, including spreadsheets and decks |
| Widget | What the widget holds, such as a note, a table, a task list or a chart |
| File | A text file's contents. For other files, such as images or PDFs, Plexii knows the file's name, type and size but does not read it |
| PlexiBrain entry | The entry's title, tags and text |
| Person | Their name, handle and role in your organisation |
Mentioning a person gives Plexii context about who they are. It does not notify them or send them anything.
Some widgets hold nothing Plexii can read, such as a timer or a section. Those are not offered.
Click a widget to add it
While the Plexii panel is open on a desk, click a widget on the canvas. It is added to the conversation as a chip, exactly as if you had typed @ and picked it. Click another widget to add that one too.
- The widget that was already selected when you opened Plexii is not added. Click it again, or click another widget, to add it.
- In focus mode, clicks on the desk are for moving around, so they do not add widgets.
The chips above the box
The row of chips above the box shows everything this conversation is pointing at. Rest the pointer on a chip to see what it is.
- Mentions last for the whole conversation. Plexii reads them on every message you send in this conversation, not only the one you mentioned them in. Sending a message does not clear them.
- Remove one by clicking the cross on its chip (Remove this reference).
- Up to six per conversation. Once a conversation has six, the list stops opening. Remove one to add another.
- Each item once. Something the conversation already points at is not offered again.
- A new chat starts empty. New chat and Clear chat both clear the chips. If you delete a widget you had added, its chip goes too.
If Plexii could not read an item, for example because it was deleted or is empty, its chip is struck through. Rest the pointer on it to see that it is not being used, then remove it.
Capture to Attention with @attention
When Attention is switched on, the first row of the list is Attention — capture what follows. Pick it, type what you want to capture, and send. Instead of a reply, a card opens above the box so you can file it as an Attention item, and Filed to Attention shows once it is filed. Click Cancel to put your text back in the box. See Capture something into Attention.
What you will see in the answer
The trace above the answer starts with the items you referenced, such as Read 2 items you referenced, before the workspace search. Plexii still searches the rest of your workspace, but mentioned desks are searched first, and something you mentioned is not repeated as a search result. See See what Plexii read: the trace and citations.
Tips
- Mention rather than describe. "@Q3 launch plan" gets a more focused answer than "the launch plan from last quarter".
- Compare by mentioning both. Mention two desks or two documents and ask how they differ.
- Remove chips you are done with. They keep riding along on every message until you remove them or start a new chat.
Common questions
The list does not open when I type @. The conversation may already have six items. Remove a chip above the box, then try again. The list also opens only at the start of a word, so put a space before the @.
I can't find a document by typing its name. Desks and rooms show from the first letter. Documents, widgets, files and Brain entries appear once you have typed at least two letters.
No people are listed. People are offered only when you are signed in and working in an organisation. See Create an account and sign in.
Does mentioning someone send them a message? No. Plexii only learns who they are. To message them, use PlexiiChat. See PlexiiChat: channels and messages.
A chip is struck through. Plexii could not read that item, so it is not being used. It may have been deleted or be empty. Remove the chip and mention something else.
