Tours and the first-run welcome

Replay the welcome and the short guided tours, take a new-feature tour when PlexiDesk offers one, and see what changed after an update.

All plansUpdated

PlexiDesk teaches itself in short pieces. A new install opens with a one-minute welcome, and a handful of guided tours show you one part of the app at a time on the real screen. Every tour says how long it takes, every step can be skipped, and you can replay any of them whenever you like.

Before you start

  • Plans. The welcome and the tours are on every plan. Body doubling, the subject of one tour, is part of the Pro and Team plans.
  • No setup needed. Tours use your own workspace. They open the real screen they are about, rather than showing pictures of it.

The first-run welcome

The welcome opens the first time PlexiDesk starts on a computer where you have no rooms or desks yet. It has four steps:

  1. Welcome to PlexiDesk, with Get started or Skip for now.
  2. Turn on the AI helper (optional), where you can add your own Anthropic key with Test & save, or choose Skip, set up AI later.
  3. What is inside, a quick overview with Continue or Skip.
  4. A place to start, where you choose Create a starter workspace or Start blank.

Press Esc at any point to close it. For each step in detail, and what the starter workspace adds, see Get started with PlexiDesk.

If you already have rooms or desks on the computer, for example after updating from an earlier version, PlexiDesk skips the welcome. You can still run it from the tours list.

Open the tours list

The tours list, Tours & onboarding, shows every tour with its length. Tours you have finished show Done.

To open it from anywhere:

  1. Press ⌘ K on a Mac (Ctrl K on Windows).
  2. Type tour.
  3. Choose Take a tour.

Or from Settings:

  1. Choose the gear at the top right of the window to open Settings.
  2. Choose the Data tab.
  3. Under Help & support, choose Take a tour / replay onboarding.

Click a tour to start it. To close the list without starting one, choose the close button or click outside the list.

The tours

Tour Length shown What it covers
Welcome to PlexiDesk ~1 min Replays the four-step welcome from the beginning.
Rooms, Desks and Plans ~40 sec How your workspace is organised. It opens All rooms, then All desks, then Plans, so you see each one.
Connected office files ~45 sec Linking a document from a table with an Office file column, embedding one document in another by typing / and choosing Insert office file, and the header that shows where a file is filed.
Body doubling ~45 sec What body doubling is, the four modes, where to set your usual mode, and where to start a session.

The Body doubling tour opens Settings on the Account tab and points at the Body double setting, so you can choose your mode there and then. Its last step points at the Body double button in the header, where you start a session. See Body doubling Coming soon and Set your body doubling preference Coming soon.

Move through a tour

Each step of a tour:

  • Takes you to the screen it is about. When the step is about one control, a ring highlights it and the step card sits beside it. Otherwise the card sits at the bottom centre of the window.
  • Shows progress dots and the tour's length at the top of the card.
  • Has Next, or a label that says what comes next, such as Set mine. On the last step the same button finishes the tour, and says Done or Got it.
  • Has Back from the second step on, to return to the previous step.
  • Has Skip, which ends the tour. Esc does the same.

A tour is marked Done in the tours list when you finish its last step. Skipping a tour does not mark it Done, and you can run it again at any time.

When PlexiDesk offers you a new tour

When a tour you have not seen yet is available, PlexiDesk offers it in a small card in the bottom-right corner when you open the app. The card is marked New and shows the tour's name.

  • Choose Take the 40-second tour (the button shows that tour's length) to start it.
  • Choose Later, or the close button, to put it off. PlexiDesk offers it again the next time you open the app.
  • Once you have finished or skipped that tour, it is not offered again. It stays in the tours list.

The card never appears on top of the first-run welcome or a tour that is running. The Body doubling tour is offered this way only on plans that include body doubling.

What's new after an update

The first time you open PlexiDesk after it updates, a What's new window summarises the version you are now on. It appears once for each version.

  • Where a version has them, Learn more buttons open the related help articles in your browser.
  • Choose Got it, press Esc or click outside the window to close it.

To read the full history at any time, choose What's new at the right of the footer. A dot beside it means there is something you have not seen yet. You can also choose Help > What's New in the menu bar (on Windows, press Alt if the menu bar is hidden). The same history is on this site under What's new. For how updates arrive, see Keep PlexiDesk up to date.

Signing in

After the welcome, PlexiDesk asks you to sign in or create an account. For your first three launches you can continue without one. From the fourth launch, an account is needed. See Create an account and sign in Coming soon and Sync your work across devices.

Common questions

Can I replay a tour I skipped? Yes. Open the tours list and choose it. Every tour, including the welcome, can be replayed as often as you like.

If I replay the welcome, will it change my workspace? Only if you choose Create a starter workspace on its last step. That adds a new Getting started room each time. Choosing Start blank, Skip or Esc leaves your workspace as it is.

A tour step did not highlight anything. Some steps are about a whole screen rather than one control, so the card sits at the bottom of the window instead. Read the step and use the button on the card to carry on.

I closed the new-tour card by accident. It comes back the next time you open PlexiDesk. Or open the tours list and start the tour from there.

Where is the help centre? Choose Help & support in the footer, or Help & guides under Settings > Data > Help & support. Both open this help centre in your browser.
