Tables, images and links
Add and edit tables in a PlexiiDocs document, insert and resize pictures, and add, change or remove links.
Tables lay out figures and comparisons, pictures show what words cannot, and links take readers to the source. All three are a click away in the toolbar, the Insert menu and the / menu.
Before you start
- Plans. Tables, images and links are on every plan.
- Pictures come from files on your computer: PNG, JPG, GIF, WebP or SVG.
Tables
Insert a table
Put the cursor where the table should go, then do one of these:
- Click Insert table in the toolbar.
- Choose Insert > Table.
- Type / and choose Table.
The table has three rows and three columns, and its first row is a header row.
Add and remove rows and columns
Click in a cell. Four buttons appear at the end of the toolbar while the cursor is in a table:
| Button | What it does |
|---|---|
| Add row below | Adds a row under the one you are in. |
| Add column right | Adds a column to the right of the one you are in. |
| Delete row | Deletes the row you are in. |
| Delete table | Deletes the whole table. |
Resize columns and select cells
- Resize a column: move the pointer onto the line between two columns until a coloured bar appears, then drag.
- Select several cells: drag across them. The selected cells are tinted, and formatting you choose applies to all of them.
Repeat the header row on every page
When a long table runs onto another page in page view, its header row can repeat at the top of each page.
- Right-click anywhere in the table.
- Tick Repeat header row on every page.
Right-click again and untick it to turn it off. The setting is saved with the table.
Images
Insert an image
- Click where the image should go.
- Click Insert image in the toolbar, or choose Insert > Image.
- Choose a PNG, JPG, GIF, WebP or SVG file.
The picture is saved inside the document, so it stays even if you move or delete the original file.
Resize or move an image
- Resize: click the image. A small square appears at its bottom right corner. Drag it to make the image wider or narrower; the height follows.
- Move: drag the image to another place in the text.
Images never spill past the margins. In page view, a picture taller than the page is scaled to fit.
Links
Add a link
- Select the words that should be the link.
- Click Link in the toolbar, or Link in the bar that appears over the selection.
- Paste or type the address and click Apply, or press Enter.
In this box, an address typed without https:// has it added for you. Addresses starting with mailto: or tel: are kept as they are.
You can also choose Hyperlink in the Styles list, or Insert > Link, which asks for the full address, starting https://.
Change or remove a link
- Click in the link.
- Click Link in the toolbar. The box shows the current address.
- Change the address and click Apply, or click Remove link.
Clicking a link while you edit puts the cursor in it rather than opening it, so you can work on the text around it.
Links to things in your workspace
To link to a desk, widget, another document or a person, type @. See Insert with / and link with @. To show a desk's widget, such as a table of figures, inside the document, see Embed desk widgets and other files in a document.
Common questions
My table is wider than the page. The table scrolls within the page rather than spilling over the margin. Narrow its columns by dragging their borders, or switch the page to landscape. See Page view, margins, headers and footers.
Can I add a caption to an image? Type the caption on the line under the image, and give it a style such as italic.
